The retail job market is evolving, with some companies cutting jobs while others are in high demand. Walmart is leading the way by increasing compensation for their superstore managers, offering larger bonuses and stock awards, potentially totaling over $400,000 annually for top performers. Store managers oversee sizable teams and revenue streams, often advancing without college degrees. With the added responsibility of managing e-commerce orders, the role has become more complex. Walmart is addressing concerns about turnover by recruiting and training college graduates for managerial roles and increasing pay and bonus incentives. The new compensation structure includes automatic stock grants, with supercenter managers receiving higher grants compared to those at smaller-format stores.

Small, but meaningful detail of a special #EmployeeExperience... thank you Walmart! 🙏 Today, my personal inbox 📥 was hit by the email below... yep, came from Walmart with the subject: "It's time to celebrate, Ramon! 🎉 "... reminding me about what would have been my 18th anniversary with the company (I'm good with numbers so 3/29 was a special day I would have remembered though 🗓 ). I want to think that this was on purpose, as part of Walmart's Associate Experience Strategy... and not just a glitch or a spam. Perhaps for other former associates, this reminder may have come across as inappropriate or insensitive (like if you were laid off as part of a big reorg, or you left the company due to a poor manager/leadership experience); it was not the case for me, and for that, I really appreciate the note. When companies are purpose-driven ❤️ and realize the importance of the holistic #HumanExperience, that is, working maniacally to improve both, customers and employee experiences, you realize that in the case of employees, you have to understand the total journey, from recruiting to post-job, and create experiences for them not only when they are employees, but before or even after they left the organization. Today marks my 4-year journey with Walmart Global Tech, and I am feeling truly blessed and deeply grateful. Today is my two year anniversary at Sainsbury's and how quickly it’s flown by.    I had no experience of retail when I joined and it’s quite unlike anything I’ve ever worked in before. It might say retail on the tin - but I’m forever hopping into many different areas whether it’s tech to finance to logistics to campaigns for colleagues in store.    It’s a business where innovation isn’t actually a buzzword, it’s just everywhere, all the time. There’s no I can’t, it’s 'how can I do it'. It’s where we push, really push our colleagues and partners to be their best, to think outside the box. I say we work at pace all the time, but actually we do. There is always something happening, something going on and its just amazing. Its big on the outside but inside, its warm and friendly. People everywhere, no matter how senior they are always have time for you. It’s just different here.   It’s been two years of pushing boundaries and firmly being shoved out my comfort zone. I have fallen flat on my face many times and then had to pick myself up again at lightening speed. It’s a culture of fail fast, learn quickly and be supported along the way. The highs are just as important as the lows. I’ve got a great team around me and even been able to grow my own team. Working with so many colleagues across the business is incredible and being able to meet people across so many different areas has been eye-opening. I have been able to be at the forefront of so many exciting things and I’ve had opportunities to learn and develop that I’ve never had anywhere else.    There is so much more to come this year, and I can’t wait. There is much to do, and so much more to learn. People are often surprised when they learn I have worked for Walmart close to 30 years and now Fortune is helping me share the WHY! The People-first and family culture was (and still is!) a magnet for me and the way I wanted to live and work! Has it been hard at times? YES! Have there been tears of frustration at times? SURE! Did I sometimes work so many hours that a 40hr / week job would have felt like part-time work? NO DOUBT! But........ Has it also been fun, fulfilling and everything I hoped it would be? YES! Have there been tears of joy when I see people grow and accomplish things that they never dreamed possible? ABSOLUTELY! Was it better raising a family and putting myself, my wife and both my kids through college with Walmart in my corner the whole time? NO DOUBT! What did I learn from my job? Though I have worked at Walmart for 3 Months. The job is great and sometimes fun with amazing people. Though these months I've experienced a lot of new skills, as, learning to socialize more, counting money, using cash registers, and more about how employees work together. This is helpful for me as it's beneficial to my future career. My manager and Team Leads are nice and are always helpful when I or other employees need help. I'm sure they are appreciated by all our hard work we put into our job. What is my goals? Lastly, what can I do to go above and beyond? I mainly have 2 goals. One of which is to hopefully learn more about the customer center as I think it's an interesting job. The second one is to get better memory to figure out why a thing isn't working on a register. A random one is to try out another position at Walmart. Lastly,I want to go above and beyond by doing my work and being hard-working throughout my time while I work at Walmart. #georgiawblworks #cherokeewbl

I used to work at walmart. At one time I took on the role of the Inventory Supervisor (CAP Team Lead). I walked into an already well established crew who knew how to do the job and was working quite well together. Yet the upper management felt they weren't doing enough and were leaving too much for the other shifts to finish. I spent months going over how the plans were drawn up and the times given for doing their tasks. What I found was typical for most corporations. The expectations were set up by people who don't do the job and often times haven't even gone to see what the job looks like. It took me almost a year and a ton of resistance from upper management but I finally got them to step aside and let me do the scheduling. Within 3 months we had already started increasing productivity. Within a year we had started to break all the old records for speed, accuracy, and moral. I held the position for 5 years, not only did we do the work with less people than any other store (we had staffing issues), but we also had the lowest rate of product loss in the district. By the time I left the position I had also managed to help 4 people promote to leadership roles and one to upper management. The only thing I changed was I gave every one of the crew 15 minutes of unknown time. When they didn't have to watch the clock to make sure they were always hitting the unrealistic time expectations, they would instead just focus on their work and relax. Less stress means more productivity. So give yourself 15-20 minutes in your work schedule for the unknown. So you can be more present in your work, rather than worrying about the time.
