It has also extended its sport association with the Newcastle Knights first ‘All Abilities’ team, via the Game Changer program.” nib recognises the role that sport plays in social inclusion for people with a disability. nib’s ethos is to improve health and wellbeing for all members, their families and communities. https://lnkd.in/gq2s5s7r #richmondfc #gotiges

Supporting Australian Police Golden Oldies - Wallopers Rugby | We have agreed to sponsor the fantastic Australian Police Golden Oldies - Wallopers Rugby. This is the amazing social enterprise supporting rugby union for retired state and federal police officers who share a passion for the game of Rugby Union. The executive team of our platform has our own passion for rugby union and we are enthusiastic about not-for-profit social enterprises that support the community. This is also a great opportunity to get the word out about the platform and the positive potential of disability entrepreneurship and the platform. We believe that it is time for a changed conversation about disability that focuses upon potential and ability. Our platform is a not-for-profit online capacity building service that supports Australians with disability to establish a business (whether a small business, a gig-based service or a monetised hobby/craft). We envisage a future where entrepreneurs with disability are business leaders, tax contributors and employers. The platform is helping establish, nurturing and supporting a community of practice in the Australian disability entrepreneurship space. "The Fearless Dragon Running Team” is a long-distance running team, comprising individuals with unique challenges, including Kim Mok (the founder of Fearless Dragon), who is totally blind, Jeffry Wong, who is deaf, and guide runner Morris. This team is set to embark on an incredible journey of 108km in the Gobi desert. Their upcoming challenge consists of running 108 kilometers within 4 days, from 21st to 24th of June, across the harsh conditions of the Gobi desert, braving extreme weather and limited resources. This extraordinary feat not only showcases their remarkable abilities but also highlights the importance of inclusivity and solidarity. The three of them are determined to beat the odds for the improvement of persons with disabilities aged over 50. Participating in sports, especially long-distance running, can have a profound impact on individuals over 50, particularly those with disabilities. Running releases dopamine, boosting mental well-being, and enhances physical health while providing opportunities to connect with others and forge new relationships. The social aspect of sports participation is crucial, as it helps individuals build support networks, break down barriers, and find a sense of community and shared accomplishment. By pushing beyond perceived limits, the Fearless Dragon Running Team challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about age and physical abilities. Their determination to lead fulfilling lives and contribute positively to society is a powerful reminder that disabilities do not define one's capabilities or potential for change. The team's inspiring journey has the potential to inspire others to step out of their comfort zones and challenge their own assumptions. The visionary leadership of Kim Mok in forming this association is truly remarkable. Despite facing his own disabilities, he has created a platform that empowers others with disabilities, while also encouraging the broader public to support and champion their cause. The goal of this journey is to launch a "Shining Life for Persons with Disabilities Aged Over 50" project, which aims to help them lead fruitful lives and embark on colorful journeys. As a pilot project, this event is open to public funding, and we invite individuals who share our values and mission to contribute and continue this inspiring journey of empowerment and solidarity. If you support our vision and want to make a difference, please consider making a donation via the links below. ====================== Support inclusion, Support Fearless Dragon Donation website:https://lnkd.in/enYbbpmE #戈壁沙漠 #GobiDesert #慈善行 #CharityWalk

🌟 We have some exciting news to share! 🌟 In collaboration with Activity Alliance, Sport for Confidence have been awarded funding from Sport England for a new programme, called Recover and Reinvent and subsequently we are recruiting for several new roles. We know that disabled people face significant challenges in participating, volunteering, and working in sport and physical activity for many reasons including financial, physical, psychological, and structural barriers. The Recover & Reinvent programme will address this by enhancing participation, volunteering, and employment opportunities, and reducing inequalities. To do this, we are joining forces and working in collaboration with many national disability sports partners, the voluntary and community sector, leisure, and health. Disabled people’s experiences and voices will be an essential part of shaping and leading this programme over the next two years. As part of the programme, we are recruiting proactive and innovative peer support workers who combine professional expertise with lived experience of disability. 🔗 Follow the link to read more about the roles and find out how to apply - https://lnkd.in/edTgEgsr #RecoverandReinvent #PromotingGoodHealth #PreventingIllHealth #CreatingOpportunities #ReducingHealthInequalities #Recruiting #InclusiveEmployer #OccupationalTherapy #OTJobs #PeerSupportWorker #LivedExperience

Nick Wilson doing what he does best in highlighting the lack of opportunities for people with a disability to be more active. In my experience making activities available is only part of the problem, letting people know the opportunity is there and providing support to make it as easy as possible to get involved is something that is so important but rarely considered. Matthew Peleszok and Northamptonshire Sport do a great job but so much more needs to be done. #SollusHealthcare #DisabledAdventurer #DisabilityAdvocate
It's not often I'm overly happy with how I come across in a news piece, but this one is different, and I'm even kinda proud of it We had quite a day yesterday, where my advocacy for accessible activities and disabled sport for people with disabilities, was reported on by BBC News (Look East) and BBC Radio Northampton. It was really exciting to be able to also bring in local organisations such as, Integr8 Archery, OnTarget Shooting and Northamptonshire Sport represented by Matthew Peleszok, who are all doing everything possible to get more people active. We even had Elliot Dason-Barber and Andrew Miller from Rock Engineering Limited join in, with their being interviewed live on BBC radio Northampton regarding RockClimber and our upcoming Mt Snowdon challenge, which was a really exciting added bonus. I'll share the interview once I've played around with the audio and created a video. Obviously! 😏😅 There's a long way to go, with isolation and loneliness being worse than it's been for a long while. Accessibility still has a huge impact on people's ability to actually attend any activities, referring to my post yesterday, where a new housing development had failed to adhere to basic regulations or consider the needs of people with disabilities! However, there is some great work being done by so many individuals, community groups and charities across the county and UK wide, which we need to bare in mind and continue building on. Remember though, when the media begins focusing on the Paralympics this year, it's not all about taking up a sport, but being more active generally and taking part in activities, even if this is at your local community group or getting out into nature. It's so easy to get caught up in winning clients and outdoing the competition that we sometimes forget the essence of human connection and collaboration. Your reminder is timely. Collaborative efforts often lead to better solutions and innovation. Attend industry events or meet-ups with an open mind. Engage in genuine conversations—not just about business, but also about common challenges and aspirations. Sometimes, a shared struggle can bridge gaps. Remember, success isn't a finite resource; there's room for everyone to thrive. Let's build a business community that supports and uplifts each other.

Last weekend, my brother won his first pro boxing fight. The photo captured the moment after the match was called by the referee as a TKO. Instead of gloating about his victory, my brother went up to his opponent to ensure he was okay and offered his help. This act of kindness and empathy will be embedded in my mind forever. It made me think about the healthcare sector I work in, especially the disability sector. The competition has become so unhealthy that people are fighting for the same things without offering anything unique or putting vulnerable people who need support first. Ahead of the brisbane disability expo sponsored by Easy Healthcare this weekend, I truly believe that service providers should collaborate for selfless gains and just a vision to make the world a better place. We need to see each other as individuals and organisations trying to make a difference. This is what will keep us sustainable into the future. So here's my question for you: Do you care enough to check on the provider in the next stall this weekend to see if there is anything you can selflessly do to help them stay sustainable? It's time to put aside competition and work together towards a common goal, as this will mean we will all be genuinely better-off overall.

Every so often someone special comes along and challenges us to see what is possible. Andy Walker is one of those people, the 47-year-old man who is paralyzed hopes to become the first person to cycle the entire 1,000-mile length of Britain using a motorized bike controlled by his chin. People like Andy help us all see how overlooking the ability in disability is a common yet profound oversight that limits not just the opportunities for individuals with disabilities but also the richness and diversity of society as a whole. When we focus solely on what someone cannot do, we miss out on the unique talents, perspectives, and contributions they can bring to the table. Disability is often framed in terms of deficits or limitations, but this perspective fails to recognize the strengths, creativity, and resilience that many individuals with disabilities develop. These abilities can manifest in various ways—problem-solving skills, artistic talents, empathy, and determination, to name just a few. By focusing on abilities rather than disabilities, society can become more inclusive and equitable, enabling everyone to participate fully and meaningfully. Furthermore, this shift in perspective can lead to innovations in accessibility, education, and employment. For example, designing environments and technologies that accommodate a range of abilities not only benefits people with disabilities but often results in better solutions for everyone. Inclusive practices in workplaces and schools can also foster diverse teams, which are often more innovative and effective. Recognizing and valuing the abilities in disability requires a conscious effort to challenge stereotypes, promote accessibility, and create opportunities for all individuals to thrive. It’s about seeing people for who they are and what they can do, rather than being limited by preconceived notions of what they cannot. In Solidarity ❤️🩹🧑🦼➡️🧑🦯🧏♀️🧠🫀🫁

Thank you, Outcomes Australia | Marvin and the lovely folk at Outcomes Australia have been strong supporters of the platform for some time. Last year, for the 2022/23 financial year, they made a very generous donation to the platform. They have donated again $8800, which is fantastic and will definitely assist us in rolling out the platform and operating in support of Australians with disabilities who wish to pursue self-employment/disability entrepreneurship. So, thank you, Marvin and the Outcomes Australia team! Your support is so important, and we are really grateful for your assistance. The platform's mission is to support Australians with disabilities in creating their own jobs and pursuing their entrepreneurial potential. We envisage a future where Australian would-be entrepreneurs with disabilities are celebrated and supported as future business leaders, tax contributors, and employers. Only 48% of Australians with disability are engaged with the workforce, compared to 71% of non-disabled Australians. Over the last 30+ years, a succession of Australian governments (of both major parties) have spent over a billion dollars trying to improve the rate, but they have only improved it by 8%. In fact, in 2010, the rate was 53% and in 2024 the rate is 48%. Around 45% of Australians with disability live on or near the poverty line. This compares to 13.4% of the general population and 20% of people with disability in the OECD living in poverty. The number in poverty in Australia in 2010 was 40%, and it was 45% in 2024. So, we are moving backwards, not forwards! We believe disability entrepreneurship is a promising solution to these apparently intractable problems. It is time for a constructive and disruptive change to the national conversation about disability and disability employment in Australia. Becoming a paid participant costs from $0.81 per day. Until 31/12/2024, if you start a Success Accelerator engagement (15 months for $365), you will receive 4 one-to-one mentoring sessions for free. Additional sessions cost $64. People with an NDIS plan that is Plan-Managed or Self-Managed should be able to bill our fees to their plans.
