3 important concepts when it comes to Journalism!

Good journalism is not cheap

The Israeli argument: It is not trying to destroy the Palestinian people, it is just trying to destroy Hamas: this argument was null and void the moment Israel decided to cut water, food and electricity from Gaza on the first day of its attacks. These actions in no way help Israel "defeat Hamas" - they are a genocidal act against an entire population. Add to that the fact that Israel has bombed civilians in areas it ordered them to evict to, bombed nearly every single hospital, and murdered nearly 11,000 children'. I taught various courses in Sociology such as: Sociology of terrorism, and Violence in cultural perspective that academic research as well as the theories of sociology of terrorism and violence in cultural perspective, and the international conventions provide evidence in which Israel is committing genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crime against Palestinian Gazans. To be more precise with evidence and real life experience i would like to share with you my own narrative that happened during the first week of this madness war. Well, if you are asking about the Palestinians Gazans, we are not okay. All of us are not okay. Our friends are losing their families. Our members of families are losing their lives. Life in Gaza became abnormal with all means. Gaza is literally being destroyed and whipped out of the map. It has been/continued to be very difficult time on my people in the Gaza Strip and my immediate family that on the second day of the Israeli attack to Gaza I lost my older sister (Fahimah, 66 years old, speech therapist for children with down syndrome; a mother to three children while she was going to buy food for her family; an Israeli military airplane dropped a missile on her/and many people in Jabaliya refugee camp while shopping in the market (murdering her and another 70 innocent people). I am so sad about this loss. After this and still some people are advocating the Israeli argument "this is self defense". After all of this ongoing Israeli military activities , and we question if this an ethnic cleansing and genocide or not? Enough is enough. Israel has been occupying Palestinians for more than 75 years. The first thing that needs to be done is ceasefire followed by the ending of the occupation!

I see journalism as a career in demand everywhere.

What advice would you have to getting into the Brodacast side of the field of journalism?

This was a practice broadcast news script I did in my Intro to Journalism class. This course has truly helped me better understand journalism in its entirety, and it has showed me specific guidelines and ethics to abide by. I have learned how to properly organize a written article, write a broadcast news script, how to take pictures for photojournalism and so much more. I have also learned how to follow AP Style, something I had no knowledge of before this class. I now know the consequences of not staying true to the principles of journalism as well, and know that my credibility can be seriously tarnished if I am not thorough. Overall this class has allowed me to better understand journalism, and in doing so has also made my love for it substantially grow.

Is your free speech magnified by money?

Journalism wins when the public is well-informed. Great to see Jelani Cobb, Ph.D., dean of the Columbia University School of Journalism, on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert." Cobb talked about the guiding principles that define good journalism and shared his opinion on the right way to cover controversial public figures. ✅ Trust is earned ✅ Do rigorous reporting — there's a difference between covering someone/something and talking about it ✅ Be correct every day ✅ Have rigorous editorial processes to ensure you get everything right ✅ Fact-check every detail ✅ Own up to mistakes when you get anything wrong ✅ Be transparent about processes and ethics ✅ Explain the who, what, where, when, why, and how of story production ✅ Be objective and subject all sides to the same equal interrogation of positions and statements — that leads to the truth "If a person is saying that they advocate autocracy and a person advocates for democracy, those two things are not equal. And you're not being unobjective or subjective to say those things are not equal." ✅ Ask the right questions — rigorous questions *What are your policy positions? *How do you plan to do what you say? *What are the budget implications for this? *Can you provide a detailed explanation of what you mean? *How do you propose we decrease the national debt? *What are the implication of these tariff policies? ✅ Focus on the unexciting topics that are most important to the public interest ✅ Drill down on the things that matter Good journalism is not dead. Despite the challenges in journalism today, there are still a lot of good people practicing good journalism. We need to shine a brighter spotlight on good journalism. We also need more public education about good journalism so people understand the value of good journalism and how much time, effort, and money it takes to make good journalism. We can return to a world that trusts the news and journalism again. Rigorous education about journalism, combined with rigorous journalism, can help us rebuild and restore trust in news and journalism. #journalism #news #trust
