Here are a few tips to enjoy nature without putting it at risk. 1. Geo-tagging a view or attraction can draw more traffic than the area can handle. Let everyone bask in your gorgeous photo and let them find it on their own. 2. Creating temporary structures like stacking stones can harm wildlife habitats. Don't take a salamander's roof just for a few likes. 3. Leave no trace, pack out what you pack in, taking only photos and leaving only footprints.

The case for planting more trees - to shade our cities and towns, to absorb and store carbon over their lifetimes, to provide the social and quality of life benefits we all want and deserve - relies on trees reaching their full size and maturity and choosing large-canopy shade trees (wherever appropriate) over smaller ornamental trees. There aren’t that many assets comparable to trees which appreciate over time (rather than depreciate) in terms of the benefits they provide (for you wine and single malt scotch connoisseurs, I’m referring to benefits, not just value 😉). These two pictures are of a tropical high- altitude grassland that i surveyed in the western ghats. Its the same spot with a little bit difference in photo angle and zoom. These two photo are of no different effects but are of different seasons. The first picture is of post monsoon or start of winter and the second one is of peak summer. In post monsoon time the new shoots of grasses, forbes and herbs sprout out to sustain the requirment of wildlife who use this habitat. In summer these shoots dry off due to the extreme heat and lack of water which can also can be prone to fire (because this is known as the fire season due to high chance of fire). So the vegetation can be regenerated by the help of nutirent present in the ashes after fire. This cycle keeps on happening every year sustaining lot of wildlife. This is just a simple play of art by nature which has high impacts on lot of lives. 🌿🎨🖼️

A word about Keystone Species (with a focus on apex predators). A keystone in a wall provides essential structural integrity, holding together many different bricks as a whole construction. Similarly, keystone species are pivotal to maintaining ecosystem balance. Removing a keystone species can cause entire food chains and ecosystems to collapse. Consider apex predators like wolves. Once thriving in Yellowstone National Park, wolves were hunted to extinction in 1926. With wolves and other predators like bears and lions diminished, elk populations exploded. This led to widespread starvation among elk due to resource shortages. Over decades, elk populations fluctuated wildly, with harsh winters leaving many dead. The reintroduction of gray wolves to Yellowstone in 1995 led to a trophic cascade, benefiting the entire ecosystem. This scenario illustrates the critical role of apex predators. A similar situation is occurring in the UK with deer populations. Reintroducing keystone species like bears, lynx, and wolves, managed carefully, could restore balance and help create a "landscape of fear" moving along large herbivores.
