Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team maybe going through a difficult phase in Formula 1 but their star driver Lewis Hamilton isn't giving up yet "I've been incredibly proud of everybody. Everyone has been working insanely hard" "We've been making big steps. I think the biggest step we took was when we got to Monaco and the car has really progressed a lot since then" "We have a better understanding of where to position the car. Amazing and thrilling partnership!!! 🔥🏎️ As a SAP Employee and a crazy F1 Fan, specially for Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, I can’t hide the excitement for this. Every F1 season represents new challenges to overcome, as new cost cap limitations were introduced in 2021, a new car design and, for the first time, 18-inch tyres in 2022, power unit freeze until 2026 and more… Changes to return competitivenes and making efficiency the principal standard. With every change, comes different challenges but also different opportunities too as the recent season schedule, allow teams and drivers to have more races to improve and fight for the championships, were they need to adapt fast week by week, depend on a lot of data to analyze and decide the proper steps to have the best performance that will provide key results on and off the track and determine your fate at the end of the season and the future. During the race in Spa, Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team saw an old adversary returning - bouncing. This has been a cause for major concern. Mercedes-AMG GmbH chief technical officer Mike Elliott analyzed the possible cause behind the bouncing "We definitely had an amount of bouncing this weekend, both drivers were telling us that and we could see it in the data" "We could also see an amount of bouncing on the other cars and I think some of it is the nature of the circuit at Spa and in fact we had huge amounts of bouncing last year as did most teams" “In teams of the performance, it definitely affects the performance of the cars because it affects the drivers’ ability to extract the maximum grip from the car, it affects their balance and it affects their ability to get their braking points right. I love this message. All too often we forget what it was like soon after college and we try to push our children, employees, mentees, etc. to find a purpose before they have developed the knowledge of who they are and before they have experienced enough to know what they really want to do. As leaders, it's important that we remember that our goals are to provide an environment that cultivates growth and development, especially for entry level employees, so that we can mutually benefit from their new skills and passions. It's also important that we understand that we are likely not the last place that they will work, and probably not the same industry, and we need to be ok with that. During my quarterly 1-1 meetings with my skip level reports, I make sure to ask if they are doing work that they still enjoy and ask what else they would like to work on. I also ask what they have recently learned. All of these questions give me a good idea on where I need to adjust to create the type of environment as I mentioned above.
