The post by the patient advocacy group below is an important one. I am increasingly worried and frustrated about more and more studies initiated by pharmaceutical companies on rare (eye) diseases that are suddenly terminated prematurely by these same companies, for financial reasons. Even when patients have already been included and treated. These companies should realize and honor the fact that these studies mean a lot of time investment and emotional involvement and hope for patients and professionals in the study centers. Companies often respond with something like: 'We greatly regret it and have not taken this decision lightly.' Well, they should have thought of that before they started this endeavour. I think that these studies should only be allowed to start when there is guaranteed funding to conduct the whole study for the whole planned period. In my opinion, we (patient advocacy groups, study expertise centers, pharma companies, and regulatory bodies) should look for ways to improve this in the near future. Let's get together with all stakeholders to make this possible.
