When we talk about big goals and big changes, it often feels daunting, especially when you're going against the grain and on your own. Approximately 80% of people with disabilities are unemployed. 80% is quite a big number. When I discuss tackling this mountain of a number, it's because I believe this mountain can be conquered over time with deliberate action and intention. This requires different ways of thinking and unorthodox ideas. It also requires proper leadership. In the disability community, 20% of us are unemployed which means mathematically leadership is hard to find. This means we must cultivate leadership within. Those with the desire and ability should be mentored and trained so they are put in a position to spark the changes sorely needed in our community.
