There is one concept about leadership and parenthood that took me a long time to grasp. Now that I have, it all makes logical sense. The concept is: It's not about you, it's about them. As a leader and a parent, which are basically the same thing, you need to be able to put everyone else's needs in front of yours. You have to be available. You have to set a good example. You have to make tough decisions. You have to be empathetic while at the same time stern. You have to be able to motivate and make everyone around you better. And you have to do all of this while putting your needs and wants last. If you want to be a leader or a parent you cannot have an ego. You can't want the spotlight. You are and never will be the center of attention. All of that gets directed back to the team. If you cannot grasp these concepts then you cannot and should not be a leader or a parent.
