It was a pleasure being part of the panel at the #HealthcareNLP Summit 2024, alongside Mwisa Chisunka. Our session introduced the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI), its collaboration with the US government and the #healthcare community, and the tools it has developed that are available for use today. We discussed how you can get involved and highlighted #GenerativeAI applications in healthcare, focusing on specific risks and best practices for building these applications. John Snow Labs' contributions in fairness, #equity, and bias mitigation were also showcased. 👇 In our latest paper in JAMA Health Forum, Lee Fleisher and I highlight the potential of #AI to revolutionize healthcare decision-making by improving diagnosis and treatment, especially for rare diseases. Titled ‘AI can be regulated using current patient safety procedures and infrastructure in hospitals,’ the paper also underlines risks such as misdiagnoses and medical errors if AI is not properly tested, updated, and integrated into clinical practice. We emphasize the need for transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in AI governance to protect patient safety. I am happy to announce the release of the first draft of the Coalition for Health AI’s (CHAI’s) assurance standards guide that is open now for public comment! Along with the guide, CHAI has also worked on checklists that translate important considerations for health AI solutions into tangible evaluation criteria. https://lnkd.in/dpas_svu   These documents were produced by volunteers in the heath AI community. Patients, data scientists, providers, nurses, human factors experts, ethicists, and others all came together to share and discuss best practices throughout the health AI product lifecycle. This true public-private partnership is seeking your feedback so that we iterate these documents to ensure that we can innovate in the health sector leveraging AI in a safe, fair, equitable, and impactful way.   Thank you to ALL the volunteers and those that have contributed to this work.
