Had a great time presenting at the Transportation Research Board's 103rd Annual Meeting in D.C. this past Tuesday. Joined by colleagues from Federal Railroad Administration, Texas A&M, and the National Academy of Sciences, we presented on "Response and Recovery for the East Palestine, Ohio Derailment and Hazardous Materials Release: Lessons Learned and Next Steps." My focus was on the gaps that still exist in preparing our first responders for railroad hazmat emergencies and the work of a dedicated group of industry veterans from the fire service, emergency management, chemical, and railroad industry, to address these concerns.
