Fighting AIDS requires strong country and community leadership. That’s why at (RED), we’re proud that our grants are always country led and country driven, allowing local leadership to design solutions that best fit local needs. At the heart of these solutions are community based organizations driving change to the last mile. Earlier this month, UNAIDS released a new report detailing how localized, community-driven health solutions are transforming global health. My friend, Winnie Byanyima, put it best: “Communities are not in the way—they light the way to the end of AIDS.” Here are some of my key takeaways.

Understanding the history of misinformation in public health is essential for tackling current and future infodemics effectively. This study highlights that misinformation has been a persistent challenge throughout history, not solely linked to the rise of social media or the COVID-19 pandemic. The focus should shift from merely combating misinformation to managing information ecosystems comprehensively. Building trust, enhancing scientific literacy, and fostering community-level interventions are key to navigating the complex landscape of health communication. 📚🔍 #Infodemics #PublicHealth #MisinformationAwareness

Time flies, and the World Coalition on Sickle Cell Disease (WCSCD) is already celebrating its first anniversary! What better place to mark this milestone than at the 77th World Health Assembly here in Geneva? As the Coalition, we organized an enlightening panel discussion with experts featuring representatives from WHO and the Ministries of Health from Uganda, Côte d'Ivoire, and Nigeria. Patient voices, scientific insights, and field realities were also highlighted through engaging dialogues with patient advocates, key opinion leaders, and the private sector. And all of this moderated by the great Ify Osunkwo, MD, MPH. This panel discussion will be remembered as another message of HOPE for all the SCD Warriors fighting this disease every day. We have heard: 🌟 A Note of Hope: SCD isn't a death sentence. Children and adults can thrive with integrated healthcare. 🚸 SCD: Not Rare but Neglected: Let's change the narrative and make a lasting impact. 🏛️ Several Ministries of Health are now transitioning in elevating SCD as a public health concern. 🔍 Screening and Treatment as Part of UHC: Universal Health Coverage must include SCD. 🧪 More research is needed; WHO and other bodies rely on evidence-based practices. Without data, there's no program; without a program, there's no data. Let’s be bold and start driving Impactful Real World Evidence Generation Programs. 🎯 Let's Get SCD on the Next WHA Plenary: It's time to bring SCD to the forefront of the next World Health Assembly. Join us in advocating for SCD awareness and support. Together, we can make a difference and Contribute to Society through Healthcare. #SCD #WHA77 #GlobalHealth #PatientAdvocacy #HealthcareIntegration #UHC #SickleCellDisease #MaternalHealth #PublicHealth #TerumoProud #WCSCDProud
