Their own documents explicitly state that "The National Institutes of Health enforces an ideological agenda, prompting universities and medical schools to vet potential biomedical scientists for wrongthink regarding diversity....In medical research, lives depend on putting excellence first. The NIH distorts that value, subordinating it to political ideology and endangering those it’s supposed to serve." Even in Florida, "Florida State University’s program, which has hired faculty in psychology and nursing, devotes 28% of its rubric to DEI." Still think DEI only affects fields outside of science? #diversityequityandinclusion #racialequity #ideology #scientificresearch

@University Hospitals Clinical Research Center, it's inspiring to see the dedication of undergraduate students in advancing healthcare through research. Their passion for innovation and improving patient outcomes is commendable. #Research #Healthcare #Innovation Do you think integrating undergraduates into clinical research positively impacts the medical field's future?
In honor of Undergraduate Research Week, and in collaboration with the Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative of Northern Ohio, we are celebrating the amazing work of undergraduate students who are conducting clinical research with University Hospitals. This week-long celebration (April 15, 2024-April 19, 2024) allows students to showcase their research, scholarly activities, and creative work. All week we will be highlighting these #FacesOfResearchUH, featuring outstanding undergraduate students working on clinical research projects. Meet Kelsey Lopez, 🤩 a sophomore at Case Western Reserve University: “I became involved in clinical research to gain experience in scientific practices that aim to improve healthcare outcomes for patients. I believe this method of directly impacting patient lives is essential to the advancement of the medical field as it could lead to innovative medical therapies, greater understanding of the human body, and increase life expectancy and health. In summary, to become involved in clinical research is to become involved in the future of medicine!” *All student features presented their amazing research in person on Monday, April 15th at our Let’s Talk Research session.* #UnderGraduateResearchWeek #ClinicalResearch #Research #ResearchinCLE #DiscoverWithUH Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative of Northern Ohio University Hospitals Research & Education Institute

The worlds of media/communication and healthcare are overlapping more than ever in recent years, a cultural change that is bringing with it new opportunities. Students in the Harvard Medical School Master of Science in Media, Medicine, and Health program, like Nadir Al-Saidi, who came into the program with a background in biology and journalism, are taking advantage. "The program was a mixture of an MSJ, an MPH, and an MBA. It felt like I could explore what I wanted to explore; that I could learn what I wanted to learn." Learn more about Nadir's story and the program:

Thrilled to share the exciting news of being awarded the Future 50 PhD studentship at the University of Leicester, Institute for Precision Health. Embarking on a transformative journey in precision medicine through my PhD, I am dedicated to advancing targeted treatments and revolutionizing healthcare. Recognizing the transformative potential of my research, I am committed to ensuring the equitable inclusion of diverse populations, addressing the underrepresentation of ethnic minorities. By meticulously implementing and monitoring these approaches, my objective is to alleviate health and economic burdens, fostering inclusive biomedical research and genomic medicine for the benefit of all. In the pursuit of these goals, my doctoral studentship focuses on deepening insights into disparities within under-served groups, with a specific emphasis on the participation and experiences of ethnic minority populations in precision medicine. The ultimate aim is to derive meaningful recommendations that will shape the future trajectory of research and practices in the field. #PrecisionMedicine #PrecisionHealth #PhDResearch #HealthEquity #UniversityOfLeicester #InstituteforPrecisionHealth

Minority participation in public health and biomedical research is an issue that healthcare workers strive to address. The University of Maryland School of Public Health was tasked with increasing minority participation and educating medical researchers on ways to reach their communities. To help with this task, the university partnered with us to help create and design an interactive website that catered to both parties. Titled “Building Trust Between Minorities & Researchers,” this site contains a comprehensive and robust number of interactives that are sustainable in not only increasing minority participation but also helping inform researchers how to best work with specific groups.
