Check the latest research article published in the Journal of Health Economics titled: 'Health outcomes and provider choice under full practice authority for certified nurse-midwives'. This new journal article examines the health outcomes when certified nurse-midwives (CNM) are granted full practice authority. One of the key findings from this research is that CNM full practice authority led to little change in obstetric outcomes, maternal mortality, or neonatal mortality. Happy Friday! I am thrilled to share my first publication on a topic close to my heart: "Empowering Better Hypertension Control in the Black Patient Population." Hypertension disproportionately affects the black community, and I believe addressing this issue is crucial. In this publication, I delve into strategies, insights, and findings that can help bridge the gap in hypertension control. In this Quality Improvement project, I've explored: -The impact of culturally competent care -Effective lifestyle interventions -The role of community engagement -Tailored treatment plans I'm dedicated to positively changing healthcare disparities and excited to share this research. I hope it inspires and encourages discussions on collectively improving health outcomes for our black patients. You can access the publication at the link below for a deeper dive into the strategies and insights I've uncovered. I would greatly appreciate your feedback, comments, and questions. Let's continue working together to create a healthier, more equitable future. Thank you to my stakeholders and the nursing community for your support and for joining me on this journey to improve hypertension control in black patients. #HypertensionControl #HealthEquity #publication #HealthcareDisparities #CommunityEngagement #HealthcareForAll #ResearchMatters #DNP #Leadership #NBNA #CCBNC #qualityimprovement #nursingleadership #nursingexcellence

University Health has received two grants totaling $14 million to support two multi-year programs, Mama Bexar and Baby Bexar, designed to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in South Texas. “Providing wraparound services to expecting and new moms will assure healthier pregnancies, healthier babies and more resilient families, healthier communities and lower medical costs downstream,” said Dr. Anna Taranova, deputy chief public health, innovation and equity at University Health. “We know we can do more, and we have a lot of work to do.” University Health is the only organization in Texas to receive these competitive awards, and the only organization in the nation to receive both. Paired with the opening of our Women’s and Children’s hospital, these two awards represent pivotal long-term investments in improving maternal health in Bexar County, South Texas and beyond. University Health, as the state-of-the-art regional perinatal referral center for 22 counties in South Texas, is the perfect organization to receive these two awards and to significantly impact the health of mothers and babies. Watch Dr. Taranova's interview with WOAI-TV News 4 and hear more about this initiative: https://ow.ly/XjvC50Q87e5 #maternalhealth #maternalhealthcrisis

Have you hugged your PC doc today? Boston 25 News tells us today that Mass General Brigham are turning away new primary care patients due to capacity issues that have resulted in long waits. The collapse of our base is a dangerous trend threatening our health care system. You need a primary care doctor to access most healthcare in this country. Without a referral your choices are walk-in clinics and Emergency Department neither of which have the capacity to treat chronic disease. PCs and pediatricians are in short supply due to the challenge of the pandemic (Pediatricians were front line in US response). But other trends prevail: low pay, long hours, onerous reporting requirements and the demand for increasing patient volume which result in high turnover. With all the emphasis on leading edge care at our great institutions, we the patient population depend on the base of the primary care system. Who out there is really innovating on increasing access to primary care?
