Last month battery electric vehicles (BEVs) saw a 10% decline in the registrations of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). Registrations of these vehicles dropped from 250,530 in May 2023, to 226,665 in May 2024. BEVs saw the largest decline in year-on-year registrations, falling 11% to 151,237 units, while PHEVs experienced a 7% decrease. Despite this, some BEV models continued to perform well last month. Thailand, electric vehicle (EV) registrations surged by nearly 380 per cent in 2023 compared to the previous year, according to a report released by EVAT (Electric Vehicle Association of Thailand).New registrations of BEVs, particularly electric cars, totaled 76,366 in 2023, compared to 9,678 in 2022. Interesting to see the post below from Automotive Services International Ltd (ASI) The data would suggest that the BEV market appears to be overheating with incentives rising to try and offset the supply demand imbalance. Q3 for some brands will see back orders fulfilled and unsold BEV inventory arriving. As the EV market moves on from appealing to early adopters and fleet buyers to targeting mainstream retail consumers it will be insightful to see who the winners and losers are. All will be revealed when the dust settles at the end of September. #automotive

Interestingly, while volume for new electric vehicles increased by 29% compared to January 2023 figures, EVs took just 12% of the total market share in January 2024, with 120,536 registered.
