While I really like discovering the latest technologies and products, there's even more pleasure in seeing real-life applications of technology. So I would say I really enjoyed producing this video feature, which I recorded at the Monterey Grand Prix last month, in which I delve into the details of a McLaren Group car modified by engineers from Arrow Electronics to enable a quadriplegic to race cars at over 200 mph, controlled with just head and mouth using head tracking. This is not an autonomous vehicle, but clever deployment of edge AI using an NVIDIA Jetson Orin module, stereo vision camera and fast inferencing in the car itself with minimal latency using custom trained models for head tracking. Check out the video in which field application engineers Joshua Willis and Stephen Harper talk me through the technology, the model training, the processing, and the challanges of deploying AI at the edge in this application.
