Last week it finally happened – meeting with LYYLI in Tampere. What a lady! Lyyli is a unique test tram in the whole world! Our Los Angeles delegation had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience an autonomous test drive with Lyyli. Lyyli tram is part of the “Lyyli Living Lab” environment, which enables the testing, experimentation and development of various solutions related to urban mobility in a real operating environment. During our Lyyli visit, Ali Huttunen from Tampereen Raitiotie Oy/ Tampere Tramway Ltd. informed us that the main goal of Lyyli Living Lab project is to enable new services offered to passengers and innovations and technological experiments that improve the travel experience in a test train operating in normal traffic. Business Finland is actively participating and funding this Lyyli project - SmartRail#3. The project is also part of Business Finland's Decarbonized Cities program. The consortium includes companies and stakeholders like Škoda Group, GIM Robotics, PayiQ, Moovy, Nodeon, Solita, Tietoevry, Tampereen kaupunki - City of Tampere, Liikenne- ja viestintävirasto Traficom / Transport- och kommunikationsverket Traficom, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Business Tampere and VTT, which is acting as coordinator of the joint project. In total, more than 30 organizations are involved in this Lyyli Living Lab project. This project is an excellent example of the close cooperation within several actors. The results of this project will be used both to implement a user-friendly and safely automated urban mobility as well as to generate new business, business-led growth, exports and new jobs. Our Los Angeles business delegation was extremely interested in the Finnish state-of-the-art solutions within the urban mobility sector. Los Angeles is on a mission to electrify transportation by the 2028 Summer Olympics. For example, the second-largest metro region in the nation aims to become a clean transportation leader ahead of the 2028 Olympics. 📣 We are happy to announce the first speaker at the MOQO Summit 2024 and today we want to share her thoughts on Shared Mobility with you: Anna Mayerthaler from ÖBB 📣 Anna is pursuing the vision of a connected and sustainable mobility. Under the ÖBB umbrella brand, she links services and providers on the wegfinder platform with the aim of bridging the first and last mile of rail travelers in Austria. At the MOQO Summit in May, Anna will be talking about the challenges and opportunities in implementation, particularly in relation to bikesharing. She has already given us a first insight and her current market assessment in advance → ➡ Where do you see opportunities and obstacles on the way to an integrated and connected mobility? The opportunity with shared mobility is clearly to slowly expand the range of services so that modal split changes become visible. And the most important thing here is visibility in the public space and the right quantity of offers per use case. From the platform perspective, the challenge is to achieve penetration and awareness among end customers so that the impact increases. ➡ What lessons have you learned over the years in setting up the bikesharing service? An important learning is certainly that as a product owner you start with a wealth of product features only to realize in the end that not everything you wanted is really essential for the end customer. And in our specific case, the "sandwich" position between two IT service providers (iMobility/wegfinder and MOQO) was a challenge. ➡ How do you think the mobility market will change in 2024? Some segments are in the process of consolidating (eScooter/on demand). I think a few strong providers will remain here. Multimodal mobility systems anyone?

By the end of 2023, our partner, Dominykas Karpovic, participated in the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. In addition to engaging in interesting and productive discussions with the PropTech Lithuania team and Vice Minister Erika Kuročkina, Dominykas initiated dialogues with various stakeholders who are instrumental in shaping the city's mobility landscape. Particularly noteworthy were the conversations with representatives from Mercedes-Benz AG and Uber. These discussions delved into their long-term vision of how their services and products contribute to improving urban living. Beyond the exchange of data between cars and city data centers, and the optimization of both private and public transportation, one intriguing topic emerged—the exploration of a more individualized public transportation system and Dynamic Autonomous Road Transit (DART). This specific direction, coupled with the pilot projects in cities like Dallas and London, presents a compelling area for further exploration. This raises the question "does size matter?" in micromobility. I would go so far as saying number of cities is a pretty dreadful metric. As we've seen through the scooter boom and ofo and Mobike wars, number of cities doesn't mean success (I am not sure you were suggesting this). I think some tough decisions will need to be made pretty quickly by the new leadership. I'd be quite surprised if there were 400 cities in the Dott/Tier column this time next year - but at the very least that column would need to be EBITDA positive (Not that EBITDA is a great metric either - see my other post on the topic!!). Either way, I'm excited to see this interaction between Bolt, Lime, VOI and Dott/Tier develop. It's only positive IMO.
