The Sea Girt Police Department is proud to announce the recent graduation of Lieutenant John O’Connor from the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Command & Leadership Academy. This esteemed academy offers a rigorous 16-week course designed in collaboration with the United States Military Academy at West Point. Lieutenant O’Connor's successful completion of this program underscores his commitment to excellence in leadership within the law enforcement community. The Command & Leadership Academy is highly competitive, attracting candidates with exceptional leadership potential from municipal, county, state, and federal agencies across the region. Participants undergo intensive training, covering a comprehensive curriculum that prepares them to handle the complex challenges faced by modern law enforcement agencies. For Lieutenant O’Connor, this achievement represents a significant milestone in his distinguished career. Lieutenant O’Connor's journey in law enforcement began in 1986 with the Borough of Manasquan Police Department, where he served as a Class II special officer. In 1988, he joined the Sea Girt Police Department on a full-time basis, marking the start of a dedicated and illustrious tenure. Over the years, Lieutenant O’Connor has held various positions within the department, including Patrolman, Detective, Acting Sergeant, and Patrol Sergeant, before being promoted to Lieutenant in April 2021. Throughout his career, Lieutenant O’Connor has demonstrated a commitment to professional development and service. He has undertaken a diverse range of training programs and certifications, enhancing his skills and expertise in law enforcement. As Lieutenant, O’Connor currently serves in the Operations Division of the Sea Girt Police Department. This division encompasses critical areas such as Patrol Operations, Traffic Safety, Investigative Bureau, and Community Outreach, among others. Lieutenant O’Connor's role is integral to ensuring the effective delivery of law enforcement services and maintaining positive relationships with the community. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Lieutenant O’Connor has been recognized for his exemplary service with several awards and commendations. These include unit citations, honorable service awards, and a lifesaving medal, highlighting his dedication to duty and commitment to public safety. Furthermore, he has received accolades from prestigious organizations such as the Drug Enforcement Administration and the 200 Club of Monmouth County.
