NEW T-Mobile is in talks to invest up to $1 billion into a joint venture with regional US fiber network operator Lumos Networks, according to German publication Handelsblatt. Neither company immediately responded to questions from Light Reading on the report. If the report proves accurate, it would represent a further step forward by T-Mobile into the US fiber market. And it would come just ahead of the release of around $42.5 billion in Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) government subsidies by US states. However, a joint venture between Lumos and T-Mobile may also represent a slight deviation from T-Mobile's fiber strategy. T-Mobile currently offers fiber services in 13 smaller US cities via partnerships with open access fiber companies like Tillman FiberCo, SiFi Networks and Intrepid Networks. Lumos, meanwhile, does not promote itself as an open access fiber operator. Instead, the company – backed by Swedish investment firm EQT – provides Lumos-branded fiber services to around 250,000 homes and businesses across its North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina footprint. The company hopes to grow that footprint to 1 million homes in the next five years. https://lnkd.in/dXNABh7a

Fantastic news for Stirling and their digital transformation journey 🚀🏡📶 As 7,000 homes and businesses in Stirling will be seamlessly connected to a state-of-the-art full-fibre broadband network. This achievement allows premises to access fast internet speeds of up to 1,130Mbps! What is even more exciting is that Stirling residents can now tap into Virgin Media’s services, which are a staggering 25 times faster than the local average. This remarkable feat comes as a result of a substantial multimillion-pound investment by nexfibre, who have set out on an ambitious mission to invest £4.5 billion and bring high-speed fibre to the home (FTTH) connections to five million UK homes by 2026, with potential expansion to an additional 2 million homes. Alyn Smith, MP for Stirling, said: “I welcome the latest investment in Stirling that will ensure my constituents have access to some of the UK’s fastest broadband speeds" Fernando Molina, chief technology & information officer at nexfibre said: “By investing in the City of Stirling, nexfibre will enable thousands of households and businesses to access the benefits of ultrafast broadband, including being able to participate in the local economy and connect with their communities. Virgin Media O2, Liberty Global and Telefonica are launching a new fibre network! Even though they already have a network covering 16.2m homes, and another fibre business named nexfibre focused on more greenfield fibre deployment it seems another network is called for! Obviously by migrating the existing customers across this could be seen as an extension of the currently fibre deployment, but for me the interesting bit was that the mobile assets of VMO2 are not included. Could this be Liberty Global and Telefonica reorganising so if the merger between Three UK and Vodafone is approved and Virgin Media O2 becomes the smallest UK MNO they have their options option….? #connectivity #networks #fibre #investment #innovation #mnos #2g #3g #4g #5g #business #enterprise #broadband #UK #growth #mobile #mobilenetworks https://lnkd.in/epAVPqCQ
