All NRC conversations during that meeting started more or less like this:
-It is so hot in here!
-Yes, and so humid!
-How many hours did it take for you to fly here?
-When are you going back?
-Is it your first time participating in ICILS?
-Ooh, another group discussion ๐ต
Jokes aside, I was and am immensely thankful for being there and representing my country as the National Research Coordinator of ICILS. Chatting with other NRCs and becoming aware of the fact that they have also faced similar challenges during test administration (e.g., mistakenly filled listing forms or unwillingness of some respondents to participate) was relieving and good to know, as beforetimes I thought that we were the only ones dealing with such hindrances last year.
Another insight was the common understanding that in ICILS, we are NOT competing with each other (!), we just want to know the state of education in our countries and find the ways to improve it. To be honest, initially I firmly believed that others also stress the ranking, as we do so in Kazakhstan. But after the NRC meeting, I have completely changed my mind and decided to direct my focus on a more comprehensive matter: researching why our students perform in ICILS the way they perform (no public disclosure of the ICILS 2023 results is allowed before the international release on November 12 this year) and how can we as policymakers can help them to improve their digital literacy skills.
Overall, to put it in a gen Z language: the business trip was business tripping ๐
I have returned home with great inspiration to work and implement ideas I have learned from IEA team and ICILS-2023 thirty-four participating countries ๐
P. S. seventh from left in the first row in yellow is me ๐ (Jullian Fraillon asked us to come beautiful that day but little did he know that ICILS NRCs are beautiful every day)

Today brings to a close to a memorable, final NRC meeting for ICILS 2023.
Over a week in Taipei City, an inspiring group of people had the opportunity to come together and engage in discussions about the eagerly anticipated #ICILS 2023 international report. We hope that NRCs took away plenty of valuable insights and happy memories!
Thanks once again to our wonderful co-hosts National Taiwan Normal University for their invaluable support of the event.
