As a neuroscientist and researcher specializing in OCD, Uma R. Chatterjee, M.S., MHPS bridges the gap between lived experience and cutting-edge science to understand the disorder that’s impacted her for as long as she can remember. In the latest episode of “Get to know OCD,” Uma joined us to break down the latest #OCD research and explain why the OCD community’s participation in studies is crucial for future breakthroughs. She also shared how her 25-year struggle with OCD drives her to understand the disorder as deeply as possible, and offered her advice for anyone currently struggling with OCD. 🎙️Watch the full episode: https://lnkd.in/gQ7FC5QZ International OCD Foundation #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #HealthEducation

MINDS-ACHD is the largest study to date characterizing neurocognitive dysfunction (NCD) in young adults with moderate or severely complex CHD in North America. Results from this study will provide valuable data to inform screening and management strategies for NCD in adults with CHD and improve lifelong care. Exploring neurodiversity is key to CEAACC's work. https://lnkd.in/er5PSBZn For many adults, neurodiversity has ranged from being completely not-recognised (and a negative experience), to somewhat, to some, to positive experiences. As a result, some individuals have experienced a complete lack of understanding around neurodiversity; for others a little, more, to growing. As an organisation, we are keen to learn more about adult experiences and journies with neurodiversity to help develop and grow our services. If you're adult who identifies as neurodiverse (whether diagnosed or not to date), we would love to hear from you- whether a few sentences or paragraphs. Your information is anonymised and used for staff training purposes only. https://lnkd.in/er5PSBZn Thank you so much for reading this & your time, any questions email: [email protected]

I've spent the last few months training to become a TBRI practitioner and finished today!! It is such an honor to have been selected to become a Practitioner and I CANNOT wait to infuse it into my work and the families I am privileged to serve. Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) is a family-based model that helps children who have experienced trauma, adversity, or toxic stress. It's based on research in neuroscience, sensory processing, and attachment, and uses three principles to address children's needs: Empowering Principles: Address physical needs Connecting Principles: Address attachment needs Correcting Principles: Disarm fear-based behaviors #tbri #tbripractitioner #fostercare #kinshipcare #parenting

This Scopus-indexed conceptual paper explores death awareness from scientific, philosophical, and psychosocial perspectives, with a focus on its implications for educational therapists working with terminally ill clients. The author introduces the Death Awareness Maturation Theory (DAMT), which outlines 10 psychosocial developmental phases of mortality awareness across the lifespan. The paper emphasizes the multidimensional nature of death, including its biological, emotional, and cultural aspects. It highlights the role of educational therapists in providing support and guidance to individuals and families coping with loss and grief. The author suggests future research directions, including interdisciplinary approaches to gain a holistic understanding of death and its impact on human experiences and well-being. A warm congrats to the author, Dr CHIA Kok Hwee. #EducationalTherapy #DAMT #EducationalTherapist Derrick Tan (FCA, BFP, M.Ed, M.Sc), Dr Jennifer Erin Camulli, Merlion Academy, Shania Saudah Yusof, Mishchar Lyons, Jasper Loy, Hei Chin Low, Philip Lim, (RG) MSc-AG, MBA, BSc-HA, GD-Geron, ACP, ACLP, FRCPI-GM

If you are unfamiliar with Rekers & Lovaas, 1974 paper titled Behavioral treatment of deviant sex-role behaviors in a male child, you should be. This paper is the foundation of conversion therapy. It has yet to be retracted by the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis. Lovaas' 1987 paper titled Behavioral treatment and normal educational and intellectual functioning in young autistic children has a very important thing in common with Rekers & Lovaas, 1974. That commonality is the success criteria of "indistinguishable". To better understanding the issues with this, please read the article my friend Jeff Newman and I co-authored titled The Rise of Micro-Institutionalization: History that Impacted the Development of Present Day Pathology Paradigm in ABA. It is free to access. You can find it here: https://lnkd.in/gZJjE3JH

#WorldAutismAwarenessDay provides us with an opportunity to promote a deeper understanding of #autism and #neurodiversity. We are proud to be a part of the research done in this area and want to promote the important work our customers are doing. We recently contributed a multimodal research spotlight in Tobii's Annual Research Report for Scientific Publications on research investigating how aerobic exercise affects face recognition in autism. Take a look, learn more and see the value of combined #EEG & #eyetracking for autism research. 💡 https://lnkd.in/dAmXGKdE #worldautismday #WAAD

Chromodiversity and neurodiversity have overlap. Many people with chromodiversity have a slower development of motor skills. They have lots in common with people with DCD, developmental coordination disorder. That causes difficulties with daily activities and results in fatigue. Fortunately, there are scientists who study motor development and DCD. In June, I was the the DCD15-IMDRC6 joint conference where scientists, health professionals and educational professionals met. I wrote a blog on my experiences there. https://lnkd.in/ePsxdCGy Thanks, Amy De Roubaix, Prof. Amanda Kirby, Jason Spinks, Clare Copley and so many other people for the great conference we had. The joint efforts of researchers and people with lived experience was heartwarming. I hope we can work together and build bridges to a better future for people with DCD and people with chromodiversity. Accessible bridges, unlike the one in the picture. The orange sign tells cyclist to walk and take the bike by the hand. Looking forward to future developments in this field. #DCD15 #Chromodiversity #DevelopmentalCoordinationDisorder
