It's crucial for member organizations to actively promote your nomination process and desired leadership qualifications at least SIX WEEKS before nominations open. Why? An effective nominations process begins with finding qualified candidates, but they don't just magically appear. Six weeks allows interested members time to fully consider the process, their potential role and to prepare. While your organization is promoting the nominations process, share the importance of service, details about open roles and the benefits of serving through a variety of communications channels. We've got more information on the modern nominations process here: https://lnkd.in/g4du7vpu #association #associations #associationmanagement #boardofdirectors #nonprofit #governance #privateclubs #cooperative #electriccooperative #mutualinsurance #HOA #farmcredit #creditunion #healthcare #union #countryclub

Usually when I ask economic development people how arts and culture figures into their work in NM, I get a blank look back. New Mexico's *nonprofit* arts & culture organizations generated $741M in economic impact in the state in 2022. That doesn't include art galleries or the film industry. -> Our average patron spends $58 per head with local merchants in addition to the cost of admission every time they attend -- a value-add few industries can match -> 18% of patrons traveled from out of state to attend -- they spent an average $123 per head in value-add -> 36% of that impact occurred in Albuquerque and 47% in Santa Fe #newmexico #newmexicotrue #albuquerque #santafe #artsandculture #arts #economicdevelopment #economicgrowth
Study finds New Mexico nonprofit arts and cultural industries bring big economic impacts

I'm excited to share some of the valuable lessons I've learned while working on establishing a Non-Profit Governance Team for New Zealand Film Collaborators. This journey has been an incredible opportunity to connect with passionate individuals dedicated to supporting our vibrant film community. About New Zealand Film Collaborators: New Zealand Film Collaborators is dedicated to supporting and nurturing the film community across New Zealand. We aim to connect filmmakers, provide essential resources, and advocate for sustainable practices in the industry. Our mission is to empower creative professionals by offering a platform that encourages collaboration, innovation, and diversity within the film sector. Key Learnings: Understanding the Importance of Governance: Effective governance is the backbone of any successful non-profit organization. It ensures transparency, accountability, and strategic direction. Building a governance team requires selecting members who align with the organization's vision and possess diverse skills and perspectives. Building a Strong Team: One of the most rewarding aspects of this process has been assembling a team of talented individuals who bring unique insights and expertise to the table. From filmmakers and producers to legal advisors and industry veterans, our diverse team has been instrumental in shaping our organization's direction. Prioritizing Collaboration and Communication: In a field as dynamic as film, open communication and collaboration are crucial. Our governance team fosters a culture of inclusivity where every voice is heard and valued. By working together, we've been able to identify challenges, explore innovative solutions, and drive meaningful change. Embracing Flexibility and Adaptability: The film industry is constantly evolving, and so are the needs of our organization. Flexibility and adaptability are key traits for any governance team to ensure that we can respond effectively to changing circumstances and seize new opportunities. Navigating Legal and Regulatory Requirements: Navigating the legal landscape is a critical aspect of non-profit governance. Understanding the regulatory requirements specific to New Zealand's film industry has been a steep learning curve, but it's essential for ensuring compliance and maintaining trust with stakeholders. Fostering a Culture of Impact: Ultimately, the goal of our governance team is to create a positive and lasting impact on the film community in New Zealand. By supporting emerging talent, promoting diversity, and advocating for sustainable practices, we're committed to making a difference. As we continue to grow and evolve, I'm immensely grateful for the support and dedication of our governance team and the wider film community. Together, we're building a future where creativity thrives and storytellers can flourish. #NonProfit #Governance #FilmIndustry #NewZealandFilm #Collaboration #Leadership #CreativeCommunity

Your parents don't understand your job. Neither do your #donors. Because we use our job titles to explain what we do. So you're the: - "Senior Development Manager for Major Donors". - "Key Relationships and Special Events Officer". - "Vice-President for Leadership Giving" - "Regional Philanthropy Lead". These mean something to you because you're embedded in the sector. But they are a foreign language to an outsider. And often these titles mean different #responsibilities in different organisations. Next time, DESCRIBE your role, rather than TELL your job title. You: 🚀 work with supporters who want to make a transformational impact in the world in line with their values. 🚀 create amazing experiences for supporters who want to make significant change in the world. 🚀 work one-on-one with supporters who want to change the status quo. When you describe your role, it: - is easier for donors to understand what you do. - invites questions and curiosity. - is memorable. Which is exactly what you want to happen. 📌 Remember: Leave the title for the office, and start describing your role to your donors. #donorengagement #stewardship #nonprofits

Humanizing Strategy | Helping social profit leaders navigate change through participatory planning that aligns their team, improves morale, and helps everyone buy in to the goals of the organization.
I first learned about John Howard Society many moons ago while I was volunteering at the Toronto South Detention Centre. I never knew I'd ever be involved with them in this capacity! 🤯 John Howard Society Ottawa is an organization dedicated to promoting criminal justice reform and supporting individuals in the justice system. My work with them is a definite highlight of this year for many reasons: 💙I often dislike using the term consultant simply because there's an association that I'm providing advice. Truth is, on the engagements I'm truly grateful for and are highlights of my career, I end up learning a lot more. 💙 Tyler Fainstat is awesome. I genuinely mean this. This has been one of the healthiest organizational cultures I've worked with, and I believe a great culture can't exist without great #leadership that genuinely care and that reinforce a set of agreed upon collective values. He affirmed for me what facilitative leadership is all about. I've used him as an example in my faciliation and leadership trainings. 💙One example is the numerous times I've posed questions, and Tyler redirected me to a staff member due to their greater expertise. This, among many other things such as the level of transparency and communication he exhibits towards those he leads. 💙Participatory processes don't necessarily entail everyone sitting at the decision-making table; informing and communicating also constitute forms of participation, and Tyler excelled at this. 💙This engagement affirmed for me that yes, this sector is one I want to work in and work with. The people from all levels are truly one of a kind. 🙏🏾💕 Tyler, in case my facilitation biz takes an unexpected detour, rest assured I've got a Plan B up my sleeve: I have experience working at an employment resource center, I think I'd be a valuable addition to Jan's team. I'm not dropping hints, but hey, food for thought, right? 😅 Thanks again, your support means a lot! 🙏🏾 Sayid Consulting Inc. #facilitation #facilitator #nonprofit #socialprofit #participatorydesign #participation
