REMOTE JOB SEEKER'S FIRST STEP TO NETWORKING 👇 Based on bestselling author Jon Acuff's insights (with personal tweaks), here's a way to categorize and evaluate your network and take a first step. This thought exercise is the FIRST step toward evaluating your network and getting a lay of the land. Create a list of: 🔹Career Gurus: Think of those you know who excel in their careers. They are rarely unemployed, they *seem* to enjoy their jobs, and they’ve made seamless transitions. 🔹Past Colleagues: Recall everyone you've worked closely with. You’ve done good work together and they would remember you and vouch for you. 🔹 Influential Contacts: Know someone big in their industry? Someone with a following? Someone who's featured in a lot of media? Write ‘em down. 🔹 Business Owners: Typically, business owners hang with other business owners. They are great people to have on your side. Even if their business isn't in your field, they might know someone. 🔹 Online Mentors: List those you follow online who embody your career goals. Consider how you can provide value to these people to potentially open up opportunities. 🔹 Network Connectors: They always seem to be in the middle of different hubs of people, always making intros. Every big circle of contacts has them. 👉 Save all these contacts in Teal, categorize each one, and come up with a custom strategy for outreach. Assign yourself dates to do the outreach, and get to work. This is a great way to ignite your network in your job search and tap into potential opportunities. If you haven’t spent enough time building your network to have a substantial list, or you're not sure how what to send in your messages, comment below and I’ll send you some additional resources! Building Your Digital Dream Network: Tips to Connect in the Remote Era Networking looks much different nowadays in our increasingly digital work landscape. Yet meaningful professional bonds remain pivotal to growth. Whether you’re an extrovert who thrives on small talk or prefer one-on-one conversations to big groups, crafting community online is totally possible - and valuable at every career stage. The keys? Intention and persistence. Treat online networking as less formal and performative. Comment on posts authentically when industry discussions pique your interest. Slide into professionals’ DMs to make personal connections based on shared experience. Ask for quick video chats over coffee rather than a stuffy multi-hour summit. Most importantly, listen deeply and offer value when you can. Share articles or tips that could help contacts solve problems. Politely connect peers when alignments make sense. Follow up on requests and pledges. Networking ultimately comes down to nurturing understanding and being understood. While old school conventions still stand about being referable and staying visible, adopting a genuine support mentality speaks volumes online. So embrace the evolving networking landscape with creativity and care. Leverage digital tools, but bring your best human self. The meaningful bonds and vibrant community you build might surprise and delight you. #DigitalNetworking #ProfessionalGrowth #OnlineConnections #CareerDevelopment
