Q: What makes your work day exciting? A: I love working with all my co-workers, and each day brings a new opportunity to grow and learn. Q: What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advance preparation? A: Pickleball, cornhole, or raising chickens. Q: What's one thing you've learned from your coworkers that you're grateful for? A: I’ve learned that it's possible to work hard AND play hard. Being part of a team that is dedicated to achieving our goals while also taking time to celebrate successes, whether big or small, has been truly rewarding. Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? A: A professional dog walker… or any type of pro athlete. Q: How many different states have you lived in? A: Taking a moment in my driveway before entering the house to reflect on both the positives and negatives of the day. I believe it's important to celebrate even the smallest victories and to also allow myself time to process any negatives and find ways to learn from them. This helps me prevent the negatives from lingering into the next day. Also, any day that I can go play Pickleball after work is a huge plus in my book! Q: What job would you be terrible at? A: Anything that involves public speaking. It's great to see that the Nobel Prize Committee has recognised the importance and utter injustice of the gender pay gap by awarding the Nobel Prize for Economics to Claudia Goldin for her work on the gender pay gap which she started decades ago. So why is it that still today, in the UK we accept a median gender pay gap of 14.9%? This is largely due to not many women being in senior (well paid) roles. Which is largely because their careers often stall when they have children. Arguments I was told face to face in the last 4 weeks include: - "well, women don't really want those senior roles, they prefer to be with their kids" - "the pay gap at our organisation 10% so it is not as bad as our competitors" - "women don't always have the attitude needed for a top job" (yes - I was told this this month! And yes, they knew I was running an organisation to help parents progress to senior leadership). A very practical way to help change this is to share the below post about the Leaders Plus Fellowship with someone who is a working parent and who could benefit from support to achieve their aspirations at work balanced with their aspirations at home. We are a small social enterprise and don't really have a marketing budget, so everyone who shares this post to make it visible to people who need to see it makes a big difference. Pay is not the most important thing in our programme, but in our last cohort  and 67% said they had received a pay rise within the 9 months of the programme and the average pay rise was 17% per Fellow. I should say, it is open to all genders, as men are an important part of the conversation, and it is for everyone from those who are expecting a baby to those with kids at the end of Primary school. We also have a hardship fund.

🕑 As I mark two years at THIRTY4/7 Communications, I was asked to give my thoughts on how planning and politics has changed in that time: 🗳 'Since I started at T47, the political landscape has changed significantly. We have had three UK prime ministers, two monarchs, two first ministers of Wales and Scotland respectively, Welsh local elections, and two (nearing three) sets of English local elections. And if that weren’t enough, we are months away from a general election which might lead to a change of government for the first time since 2010. 🏗 The election will take place with both major parties having swapped positions on planning and development. Previously, under Boris Johnson’s government, the Conservatives placed growth at the heart of their economic agenda, pledging to ‘Level Up’ the nations and regions with investment and infrastructure. Johnson himself also championed the need to ‘build better and build greener but…also build faster’. In response, Keir Starmer’s Labour Party then warned voters that ‘The Conservatives’ developers’ charter would sell off and sell out our communities.’, in an appeal to those concerned at the prospect of overdevelopment. 🏡 Come 2024, and the position of both parties has reversed. Rishi Sunak has sounded a more cautious note around development, notably ditching national housing targets and watering down net zero legislation. Keir Starmer, on the other hand, has placed economic growth at the heart of his programme for government, with commitments on undertaking planning reform, achieving 100% clean power by 2030, and delivering 1.5 million new homes across the next Parliament. Starmer even recently acknowledged that Johnson’s policy had ‘struck a chord’ with voters, conceding that ‘Levelling-up is a good ambition for Britain’ and committing to delivering the policy in its totality. 🗣 Politics, after all, is driven by competing coalitions of voters and certain fluidity is to be expected, though with Labour anticipated to form the next government, perhaps there is growing evidence that voters wish to see growth and development at the forefront of the policy debate.' #politics #policy #development #Keir #Starmer #Boris #Johnson #Rishi #Sunak #Labour #Conservatives #communications

🌟 Tuesday Thoughts 🌟 Today, as I reflect on my career journey, I’m struck by the statistic that the average employee tenure at a company is around 4 years. 🤔 In my personal experience, out of the 5 jobs I’ve had, only one lasted less than 4 years. 📊 But here’s the remarkable part: I’ve been with Jack Henry for over 16 years! That’s four times the average length of time. 🎉 Today, I looked at our associates celebrating work anniversaries today, I notice a diverse range of tenures—from 5 years to over 20 years! 🙌 🔑 Why do some of us stay for the long haul? 🔑 It all boils down to feeling valued. 💙 People leave jobs for various reasons—management, compensation, work-life balance, and career advancement—but the common thread is this: feeling valued. We crave recognition not only for our work but also as individuals. It extends beyond the office walls to our lives outside work and our professional growth. 🌱 At Jack Henry, we’re fortunate.
