"At the center of leadership in today’s schools, whether expressed by heads, teachers, or someone else, is organizational learning. This assertion is based on the simple but profound idea that if we expect schools to get continuously better at providing learning for students, teachers must become members of communities of practice and schools must become learning communities for adults as well as students." -Thomas J. Sergiovanni, Leadership: What's in it for schools?, p.109

How do you, as a leader, foster a culture where all stakeholders see themselves as key players on a team of learners and problem-solvers with agency and accountability for student learning? Leadership does change things! Building the capacity of leaders across the system is needed! Principals leaders, teacher leaders, parent leaders, central leaders, Community leaders and student leaders- to develop an Ecosystem of literacy that leads to reading — leadership matters!
I leverage leadership and systems-thinking to ensure literacy is a civil right achievable for all students.
About one week ago Dr. Sabrina "Bri" Moore, EdD, MBA shared a bit of her story as a teacher, principal, and systems leader in Oakland. She speaks to the ✨ecosystem✨ that we must create to do this work well. This begins with building the capacity of leaders because “we believe leadership changes things.” When principals understand structured literacy and strong instruction, they can make strategic decisions around aligned curriculum and resource allocation in order to build the knowledge and capacity of teachers through PD, collaborative planning, and consistent feedback. Thank you again to Center for the Collaborative Classroom , Families in Action for Quality Education, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, and FULCRUM for hosting this powerful event!

Compass Charter Schools acknowledges the significance of student-led Service Learning Projects. What is Service Learning? Service Learning involves guiding and mentoring our students to utilize their voices and leadership skills. They engage in meaningful work that aligns with their talents and passions while addressing real-world needs. Why is this important? By integrating academic learning with our 7 Habits practices through practical application, students not only comprehend educational concepts but also develop personal and interpersonal leadership skills. They actively contribute to their community and the world, addressing issues that deeply resonate with them. Highlighting impactful initiatives, Navigator Academy of Leadership Valrico recently spearheaded an incredible project. They collected blankets for Kids Place and a Street Outreach Program, embodying the essence of Service Learning. These blankets offer warmth and symbolize the compassion and care our students demonstrate for those in need. Service Learning isn't solely about giving back; it's about empowering our future leaders to enact meaningful change. #CompassCharterSchools #NavigatorAcademyofLeadership
