October is American Pharmacists Month, and we are highlighting Ole Miss pharmacy alums daily to celebrate all the fantastic work pharmacists do!
Hi everyone! I am Carl Lowe, an alumnus of the School of Pharmacy class of 2021. I am an Inhaled Respiratory and Health System Medical Science Liaison at AstraZeneca.
Why would you encourage a student to pursue pharmacy?
I encourage students to pursue pharmacy because it offers a unique and impactful pathway to positively influence patient care and healthcare outcomes. Pharmacy is not just about dispensing medications; it's a field that allows you to bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and patient well-being. As a pharmacist, you can be a crucial member of the healthcare team, providing evidence-based solutions, optimizing medication regimens, affecting discharge protocols, and enhancing patient's understanding of treatments.
What do you love about being a pharmacist?
Pharmacy allows me to fulfill my passion for evidence-based medicine and patient advocacy. In my current role, I am able to affect health care on a much broader scale, from designing and executing studies to educating HCPs. I take pride in my role as a communicator and educator, helping patients and HCPs understand complex medical information. I cherish the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of innovative strategies that lead to better patient outcomes.
What do you love about the Ole Miss School of Pharmacy?
The School of Pharmacy provided me with a strong foundation and a supportive community that nurtured my growth as a healthcare professional. The education and experiences I gained from the school have been invaluable in preparing me for my journey in the pharmaceutical industry. The emphasis on interprofessional collaboration, combined with rigorous academic training, equipped me with the skills to communicate with healthcare providers and to contribute meaningfully to the field. The mentorship and guidance I received from faculty members fostered my passion for mentorship, enabling me to share my knowledge and experiences with the next generation of pharmacists.
