I saw Heinz beans in the food bank bin at my local supermarket yesterday and it got me thinking. This was not just a gift of food for someone to fill an empty cupboard (that would have been the supermarket's own brand beans) - no this was a gift to spark joy. We're all in business to meet a need. We spent a lot of time defining what that need is, who has it and how efficiently we can meet it. We think about who else is meeting those needs, how we compete against them and what we get out of the process (to meet our needs). But what if we were to add an extra little element every time? How much would it cost in comparison to how much extra it gives? Upgrading from Tesco beans to Heinz cost that giver nearly £2 but there's a lot of worth in that couple of quid. Will someone somewhere reconnect with their inherent worth because a complete stranger chose to give them a premium product? I don't know but I hope so. What little ripples can we send out into the world with no knowledge of where they'll end up? They may not cost very much but their worth could be incalculable. Have an awesome week. #worth #community #connection #ethicalmarketing #giving (The fact that we need food banks is an issue for another day.)

"Good food? Don’t bank on it. Let’s not wait for political posturing in the run up to the UK general election. We need to rebuild the foundations of a fair food system for all, now. Let’s start talking about the right to good food for all – why that matters and how we can move forward." Food banks have filled an important vacuum, but they have a shelf life and can only ever be a sticking plaster. My latest column for The Grocer: https://lnkd.in/eNAuRsed

Tre'dish Groceries Against Inflation follow up post..... 🥕 🍗 🥑 🍖 This post seem to have struck a nerve in the best way possible as it's the one post that has filled my DM's with questions. So here are the answers: Q: How can Tre'dish provide such massive savings? A: We literally have NO bells and whistles. Our cost savings all reside in shipping direct from our wholesalers. Our packages come in repurposed unused boxes with some Tre'dish Branded Tape....that's it....simple. Q: How do delivery costs work? A: Our standard delivery fee is $7.99 but if you join our Delivery Pass for $9.99/month, you get as many deliveries as you want per month so it pays itself off after 2 deliveries. But try us out first and see what your grocery experience is like before signing up for the Delivery Pass. Q: I see you are in Mississauga and Hamilton but when will we open in Toronto, Brampton, Markham, Kitchener, Ajax? (Yes, I have gotten all of these requests) A: Its REALLY simple. We have 2 delivery days, Sundays and Thursdays (between 6am and 9am). We need 200 customers to fill a Delivery Truck in any region. Please continue to refer people in your area and we will open it up as soon as we hit this target. Q: Are we also providing Charities, Companies, Communities with Group Buying as well? A: Yes, we are already working with 4 Food Banks and are also working with a few large community groups ie: Student University groups who are looking for additional group savings for students who need affordable nutrition. Q: How can you help with the Impact Thesis because yes, I agree, its too important not to help. A: Simply spread the word and send out the link below in my comments. We are also setting up a Referral Program in January because of the overwhelming interest to support this cause. Please DM if you are interested in becoming an affiliate partner. Honestly, I could not be more overwhelmed by the support and I agree this movement for affordable food and nutrition is very much needed for everyone. Happy Holidays to everyone and thank you for your kinds words and support. See everyone in 2024!

There are 2621 counties most behind in workforce and many basic areas of access, food, outcomes, supports, etc. Food stamp applications and misinformation result in 37% not applying nationwide and likely about 50% in these counties Social support dollars are concentrated in these counties and are a top contributor - which applications, misinformation, and political shenanigans make worse. Government jobs are also a top contributor and have been cut and centralized away Health care and education have the absolute worst funding designs for these counties and also are top economic contributors. If it were not for the people of these communities supporting one another...

The Texas Tribune published this article today highlighting the food insecurity crisis in Texas. It states that Texas has the second highest rate of food insecurity in the nation. The article points to housing cost as one issue and that families are forced to choose between paying rent or buying food. https://lnkd.in/gB_e683x

I'm not sure if we're more generous with our tipping in California or if there is more pressure to tip well here. A large part of the workforce in California works in the restaurant business, not as a part-time job but as a full-time career. My friends and family tell me I'm an overly generous tipper. But I know how hard the food service is because I worked in restaurants as a dishwasher, busboy, waiter, and kitchen expediter in my younger years. I'm good with tipping, but I'd rather offer the tip of my own accord, not be pressured to do it as a minimum expectation. There was a period in California when some select restaurants increased wages and took out the tip expectation. I preferred that method much more than the tipping pressure. I could still give an additional tip, which I often did for stellar service, but I wasn't compelled to pay the minimum salary of employees I never hired. The original idea of the tip is that it's supposed to be a reward for a job well done, but unfortunately, it's turned into an expectation, regardless of the service level. But it's not just California that has the 20%+ expectancy. I travel to many other states and metro markets around the country with the same expectations. And now, this tipping expectation is flowing over into many other service industries. I am empathetic to the plight of restaurant workers, but the net result is that the customer, not the restaurant, now bears the burden of paying the employee "fair wages." #food #service #tipping #tip #restaurants #food #employees #business
Some states are more generous than others when it comes to leaving a tip, according to a new survey. The survey asked 5,000 Americans — 100 people per state — about their tipping behavior in situations like restaurants, food delivery, personal care and services rendered. California residents tended to leave the largest gratuity, with an average tip percentage of 22.69%. Missouri followed closely behind, with residents adding a gratuity of 22.05% to their bill. Overall, average tip percentage in the U.S. comes out to 17.94%. Where does your state stand? https://cnb.cx/3SeMr1y
