As we draw a close to the first quarter of this year, many of the hiring managers and Solar OEMs I speak with have indicated a "pause" or a "slow down" in hiring until the summer.🤔 It seems that our sector probably didn't anticipate as a slow start but are very hopeful for the full inventory and stock across the industry to ease as we move into Q2- opening more opportunities! 🤗 In general though Solar PV is still on a very positive trajectory... with job numbers expected to double in the next five years! 🚀😲 According to SolarPower Europe, the EU's success in solar energy is becoming increasingly evident. From 2021 to 2022 alone, job opportunities in the sector surged by 39%! 🤩🙌 In 2022, a new milestone was reached with a record 40.2 GW of solar capacity installed in the EU,🌞🌱 resulting in nearly 650,000 jobs within the industry! The world’s largest solar panel manufacturer is set to slash its workforce by almost a third as the industry struggles with oversupply and cut-throat competition. Chinese giant Longi Green Technology Energy reportedly plans to cut staff numbers by up to 30pc, in an expansion of lay-offs that began four months ago. It comes amid wider redundancies across China’s solar industry after prices for solar cells plunged to an all-time low. Longi first said it would begin cutting its workforce in November, starting with thousands of management trainees and factory hires. According to recently published employment report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the global solar industry employed around 5 million people at the end of last year. The report also reveals that women’s employment in the industry was “uneven”, with females mostly hired for administrative positions (58%) followed by science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (38%) and non-STEM technical positions (35%). #renewables #solar #technology

In a recent report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), it was revealed that around half of the global energy workforce is already engaged in the clean energy sector. This transition is more pronounced in the EU and China, where the figure has already surpassed 50%. 🛠️ Skills in Demand: - Technicians and Engineers: Accounting for around 45% of the energy workforce, these highly skilled professionals are vital in advancing clean energy technologies. - Medium-Skilled Professions: Think solar plant construction, wind farm assembly, and energy retrofits. These jobs form the bulk of opportunities in clean energy. - Cross-Industry Skills: The clean energy sector is looking for professionals who possess skills that are also applicable in other industries. For example, general electricians may need just a few more weeks of specialized training to become solar panel installers. 🎯 The Way Forward: The IEA is working to identify precisely which skills are needed to sustain this green transition. Their findings will help design curricula to include clean energy technologies in standard training programs, making it easier for individuals to switch careers or upskill. 💡"Energy is an industry that requires a lot more high- and medium-skilled employees. #RenewableEnergy will #generate 10 million #newjobs. : Employment in the #renewableenergy industry is set to surge, acc. to a new report by Staffing Industry Analysts #SIA. The industry will add close to 10 million new jobs globally over the next seven years. Demand for workers is being driven by ongoing government and private-sector support for renewable energy, and firms are scrambling to find workers with the right skills. “Energy companies around the world cite talent shortages and difficulty sourcing workers as one of their largest concerns about potential growth,” writes Amy Horvat, SIA research analyst and author of the report. Many renewable energy jobs require highly specialized or highly in-demand skills. Workers include those who design and operate renewable energy sites as well as those involved in their construction and the manufacturing of equipment. The renewable energy space includes #solar, #windpower, #hydropower, #bioenergy, #geothermal energy and #marine energy (i.e. tide and wave energy), acc. to the report. #Solar ranks as the top job generator. It accounted for 44% of all renewable energy jobs in 2023 and created nearly 75% of all new renewable energy jobs through 2030. Horvat noted solar usage is growing faster than other types of renewable energy, in part because it can be installed by individual consumers as well as on a utility sale. Where are the jobs located? : China represents 33% of all renewable energy workers; however, the country is a relatively complex country in terms of temporary staffing.
