I've been having trouble with this issue for some time. I always go to the doctor for issues with my lower and now upper back, knee problems, and more. I find it hard to remember all my symptoms that led me to schedule the visit and when the time comes I feel a bit rushed and unprepared. This article mentions some great tips that everyone should incorporate. The first tip is important because I forgot to mention 2 symptoms to the doctor and it's hard enough to get the appointment, but trying to contact them after is even more difficult. Shock Index is a tool that’s used by paramedics and EMTs to predict outcomes after physical trauma. The Shock Index measurement has been shown to be especially reliable at predicting hospital outcomes in rural areas where routes to the hospital are longer, and has been shown to provide a good indication of mortality when compared to other methods such as taking vital signs. Though the prehospital Shock Index has received some criticism, studies have shown Shock Index to be a much better indicator of the first signs of shock in trauma patients with catastrophic blood loss than vital signs in isolation. February is American Heart Month ❤️ Patients with heart failure are usually given a referral for hospice by their cardiologist. In general, the person must have a life expectancy of six months or less, as certified by their physician, based on the normal course of their illness. In addition, the patient must meet one or more hospice eligibility criteria, such as: • Progressive decline in health status • Continued weight loss • Weakness and fatigue • Other uncontrolled symptoms •Other indicators of eligibility for hospice care can include: • Frequent or recent hospitalizations for cardiac heart failure • Angina (sharp chest pain) at rest, despite medical management • Angina at rest and not a surgical candidate or refuses surgery • History of cardiac arrest/unexplained syncope (fainting) • Desire not to be hospitalized if the illness worsens • Other comorbid (concurrent) disease that may shorten survival Call us with any questions or for an initial assessment, at no charge, to see if you or a loved one qualify for hospice. Hip fractures are a common and painful occurrence in Canada, with data showing roughly 30,000 patients present with hip fractures a year, and more than 30 per cent of those patients are over the age of 85. Opioids are effective at relieving acute pain, but older patients often have increased sensitivity to their side effects. An anesthetic technique called Fascia Iliaca Compartment Nerve Block (FICB) is a safe and cost-effective way to reduce pain for hip fractures in older adults. espite FICB being a Health Quality Ontario quality standard, it is not commonly performed in the province,. A new study led by St. Michael’s Hospital researchers investigated why so few patients receive FICB.
