Most notable for me, patients with shockable rhythms, including refractory VT/VF and storm, are receiving as much (maybe more?) epinephrine than other subgroups, and epinephrine use is similar across subgroups regardless of age with some difference in both directions relating to comorbidities. "Simply put, without the "Berlin Heart", he would have died two or three days later." Words of a mother who almost lost her child. Her son Luca, who was born with a univentricular heart and suffered from a failing Fontan circulation, was saved by the EXCOR® Revive Ventricular Assistant Device System. Luca, 17 at the time, needed a heart transplant but was removed from the list due to Fontan palliation issues. He was weak, immobile, and had severe health problems. With his doctors and family, Luca opted for EXCOR® Revive, which significantly improved his condition. He made it back on the transplant list and became increasingly active. After 132 days on EXCOR® Revive, he successfully received a donor heart. In 2022´s Berlin Heart summer event, we had the great honor to celebrate with Luca and his family. ❤️ February is American Heart Month ❤️ Did you know that according to the CDC, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds? The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology set the standards for care for acute coronary syndromes. ⏱ Time is of the essence when it comes to treatment. When I was in nursing school more than a dozen years ago, we used the acronym MONA ✔ Morphine ✔ Oxygen ✔ Nitrates ✔ Aspirin This still applies, but now I know there are so many other pieces that need to fall into place. When a patient has chest pain in the hospital or is brought to the ER, a protocol is triggered. This protocol reflects the ACC/AHA guidelines. As healthcare providers, we have a limited amount of time to make the most impact for these patients.    Our goals are: >30 minutes door-to-needle time for administration of fibrinolytic (clot-busting) medication >90 minutes door-to-balloon time for primary PCI (cardiac catheterization with stent) There are so many people who play a role in these two seemingly simple goals. The available evidence is quite clear: video laryngoscopy is better for patients than direct laryngoscopy, and our patients deserve the best available care we can provide. There are too many good VL systems on the market to claim that your system can't find one to field in your ALS/MICU units, and several of them use the same blade geometries you're already carrying for DL. Train your people to set up VL, then execute DL unless a good view cannot be quickly established. If you do that first lift, a small shuffle, and a second lift and you don't have a Grade II or better view, then move your gaze from the throat to the camera's view and proceed under VL. It's genuinely no more complicated than that.
