Be patient. I would like to introduce you to BioTech! The Lithuanian biotech ecosystem is an equal partner for all ecosystems around the world, including Poland. Why? Because until 2030, we are seeking to at least double high value-added exports, three times increase private R&D investments, and ensure that every second Lithuanian enterprise will be more productive than the EU average in 2030. As a result, we are planning to generate 5% of Lithuania's GDP from the life sciences industry until that moment. Our R&D facilities are leaders in a region. There are six universities and seven colleges dedicated to the study of life science, eight life science R&D centers, and five science and business valleys around the country. During the last decade, Lithuania has attracted well-known international companies with its industry centers and well-established R&D bases. We also created new ones. Some large international names like ThermoFisher Scientific, Hollister, MOOG, Gruppo Fos, Intersurgical, TEVA, Cureline, and Intermedix are settled here in Lithuania. As a result, Poland welcomed our biotech openly! This year: 💫 Full our ecosystem involvement in the BioForum 2023 with biotech business mission to Lodz region; 💫 BioForum became our partner during the Life Sciences Baltics. 💫 In cooperation with Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) , Poland had the biggest representation ever during the Life Sciences Baltics. More than 30 participants and industry players came to Vilnius to share their interests and knowledge. We are excited to share the highlights from our recent meeting in Beijing with Italian Ambassador Massimo Ambrosetti. This meeting was attended by an esteemed Italian delegation, including representatives from the Fondazione Toscana Life Sciences and the Sino European Center in Shenzhen. During the meeting, we delved into the latest trends in the biotech sector. Aldo Tagliabue, President of Almatech, presented several key projects to Ambassador Ambrosetti and Alessandra Guidi, the Italian Scientific Attaché in China. These projects aim to attract Chinese investments into Europe, particularly highlighting our ongoing collaboration with the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI), which is expanding globally. 🌟 Great presentations by Yike Xie, Evgeniia Shcherbinina, Gayathri Narasimhan, and Angana Patel (who presented in place of Nadia Gul) during the WCMTM and AstraZeneca postdoc seminar in April! In this industry postdoc program, a PI from each organization joins forces with a shared postdoctoral researcher. Together they conduct a research project focused on innovation and health benefits. While presenting methodologies, results, and timelines, the postdocs also underscored a vital aspect: the invaluable access to both the university and the AstraZeneca labs, capabilities, and network. Pernille B. Laerkegaard Hansen who is Executive Director and Head of Bioscience Renal and CVRM at AstraZeneca, was one of the participants at the seminar: “The joint postdoc program is intended as a close collaboration allowing the researchers to work as one single team, although placed in different organizations and locations,” Pernille said.
