Our team here at Novoron was truly saddened to learn of the passing of Bill Walton today. When Novoron was just barely getting started, Bill Walton met our CEO at a Padres game and took genuine interest in our work. That's just the type of guy he was. Giving real time and even a helping hand to a tiny local company just getting started. He was truly a force for good in this community and his loss will be felt for years to come.

San Diego, and the world, lost a legend today. Many people will likely say the obvious; Bill Walton was a giant in every way. His athletic career made him a sports legend, but who he was off the court extended his legacy beyond just sports fans. I met Bill in 2015 when he was doing a promo at a Padres game. There were hundreds of people in line and when I reached him for an autograph and handshake I casually mentioned my research and that I had worked with some of the doctors that did his back surgery. Bill proceeded to hold the line up for 10 minutes asking me a million questions and showing genuine interest in my work and Novoron as a company. After his handlers asked him for the tenth time to get back to the line of patient fans, he gave me his cell phone number and said, "I'm not done with this conversation. Text me during the game and make sure we exchange information." I couldn't believe it. It took me about 6 innings to get up the courage to text an NBA Hall of Famer, but within minutes not only had he responded but he passed along his email and contact for his business manager, and from there he made good on his promise to help in whatever way he could. These pictures are from that day, and the screenshot is of his response of my first email to him. I still cannot believe that a man clearly too busy to be trying to do favors for a guy he met at a baseball game once went out of his way to help when we were barely a 3 person company. Bill was just passionate and giving like that. Truly a legend. He will be missed and San Diego will likely never be the same. #SDlegend
