Thanks to Tigercomm and Mike Casey for this recent interview with our CEO Katie Mehnert — a ‘leading clean energy thinker’ She got her start in oil and gas, and she’s become a leading thinker and evangelist for growing the energy talent pool. Katie’s journey through the incumbent parts of the energy sector has given her an enhanced perspective on being an energy CEO. Here are Katie’s B3P’s 12:38 - As a leader, you have to surrender the notion that you can control everything, because you can’t. CEO doesn’t stand for “Chief Everything Officer.” Rather, it’s about making sure you pull in the best team you can, and help them make things happen. 16:28 - Visible leadership is when someone leads a company, rather than runs it. To be a visible leader, determine what your “why” is, and march forward. My “why” is to help give my child a cleaner future. But, the world will not be a better place if you are on the sidelines, playing it safe. 23:26 - When you look to hire someone, it is important to consider what the workforce values right now. The job search is no longer about the gold watch – the best benefits and pay can only get you so far. People instead look for a purpose. Create a purpose within your company that attracts people and gives them a reason to enjoy their work. Have a listen!

Exciting news - as of April 1st, I will be the new CEO of ACT Group!  As someone passionate about accelerating the energy transition and helping businesses solve complex environmental challenges, I can’t wait to get started. In the meantime, I am fortunate to be able to shadow Bram Bastiaansen, ACT’s Co-Founder and current CEO, while I take a deep dive into the wildly successful global company he’s built, the international team of experts that power it, and a long list of world-class business customers that continuously choose ACT as their environmental solutions partner. I am both honoured to take over from Bram and happy that he’ll be staying on as an Advisor so I can leverage his experience. So far, I have received an incredibly warm and fun welcome from my talented and passionate new colleagues based in all six of our global offices digitally, but it’s my aim to get to shake hands in person shortly as well. Great interview on energy. Very realistic opinions and facts on energy transition and the importance of LNG as a source of energy and the infrastructures required. But read what the guy has to say about leadership: McKinsey: You’ve been on the job for 13 years. What are your most important leadership lessons? Alan Armstrong: I joined Williams in 1986 and I grew up in the company as an engineer with an engineer mindset: “There’s always a right and there’s always a wrong. There isn’t anything gray. People should just wise up.” I wasn’t easy to coach. But I was fortunate, at one point in my career, to have a boss—Steve Springer—who helped me realize that you can be the smartest person in the room, but if you don’t have people coming along with you because you haven’t listened to what their passions are, what their ideas are, and what they perceive as success, you will lead only through dictation, not inspiration, and leave the powerful tool of teamwork laying idle. That was definitely an important lesson for me: you’re not going to get other people to follow your passions unless you are willing to listen to their passions.

However, state policymakers are currently testing a variety of methods to encourage their development. Common approaches include a mix of mandates for utilities to procure energy from VPPs, incentives for utility customers to deploy DERs and participate in utility programs, and market access reforms to allow third-party aggregators to participate. Different varieties of these approaches have been considered by several states and utilities over the past year."
