How the job market in Canada will change in 2024? My interest in Canadian job market is growing. I am connected with some good professionals like HAMMAD SIDDIQUI Syed Irfan Bahroz Abbas Hussain Doreen Fernandez who regularly write on LinkedIn and share their insights in live podcasts. I was reading some blogs and came up with the following indicators: - Unemployment rate in Canada will be around 5-6%. - Sectors like manufacturing, accommodations, foods and support functions will need more workforce. - Aging population continues to rise. Immigrants being the skilled workforce will fill the gaps. - With baby boomers retiring, skilled immigrants and fresh talent from Universities will add to the skilled workforce. Some of the concerns are also palpable: - Short term financial health - Work life balance - Physical health - Long term financial security - Mental health It means the companies in Canada will have to keep an eye on the market trends, workforce behaviours and ensuring that their top talent stays with them. Review of existing policies especially rewards and recognition is recommended. Great resignation had an impact on people's mindset during pandemic and its impact still continues. Gen Z is thinking in terms of work flexibility, remote or hybrid work arrangements, learning and growth and competitive remuneration. 📊 VPWS Employment Update for APRIL 📈 Employment surged by 90,000 jobs in April, marking a significant boost in the labor market! Despite this, the unemployment rate remained stable at 6.1%. Here's what's happening across key sectors and demographics: 🔹 Age and Gender Insights: Core-aged men (25-54) and women are seeing opportunities grow, with increases of 0.6% and 0.4% respectively. Youth employment (ages 15-24) also rose significantly, especially among men (+2.8%). However, women aged 55+ faced a slight decline in employment rates. 🔹 Industry Highlights: Part-time positions led the charge, adding 50,000 jobs. Notable growth was observed in professional services, accommodation, health care, and natural resources. Utilities saw a decrease, shedding 5,000 jobs. 🔹 Regional Developments: Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, and New Brunswick enjoyed employment gains.
