Interval throwing programs provide a safe and regimented path for pitchers to return to pitching. 1. Begin with flat-ground throwing, and progressively build to throwing from a mound. 2. With increased distance, shoulder external rotation stress and shoulder internal rotation speed are also increased. 3. The greater the throwing effort, the greater the elbow varus torque. Build slowly! Dias T, Lerch BG, Slowik JS, Wilk KE, Andrews JR, Cain EL, Fleisig GS. Biomechanical Basis of Interval Throwing Programs for Baseball Pitchers: A Systematic Review. Low Back Rehab in Basketball 🏀 Once at athlete is out of the acute stage of injury and has full extension (McKenzie Approach) we can progress towards active stability. One drill I like using is the single leg RDL. The purpose of this drill is to work on the hip hinge (difficult after injury), activate fascial slings (Tom Myers), and stimulate the TLF to compress the area of injury through active stability. 🔑How well an athlete comes back after injury is a direct reflection of rehab (physical and mental). #athletictraining #athletictherapy #athleticperformance #athleticmedicine #strengthandconditioning #sportsperformance #sportsmedicine #sportschiropractic #basketball #basketballperformance #Sportsscience

Formulating the optimal Interval Throwing Program (ITP) for pitchers returning to play is essential in ensuring proper arm care. 1. Pitchers at every level are throwing with increased velocity and less downtime between outings, which is leading to the increased incidence of injuries. 2. Phase I is known as the long toss progression, lasting for 15 weeks. Build up to a throwing distance of 120 feet. 3. Phase II is known as the mound progression, beginning at week 16. Change-ups are allowed to be thrown in week 19. Curveballs are allowed in week 23. PDF’s of both phases are included in the link to the article below. Single-Leg Countermovement Jump (CMJ) Leaderboard - Pitch Ready Testing Rugby League continues it's dominance of capacity-based testing, with individual athletes returning from injury recording higher jumps than data we have for other sports, including some of the more renowned 'jumping' based sports such as Australian Rules football & Basketball, including some of the most high profile athletes in the world. The counter-movement jump (CMJ) is arguably a good way of estimating concentric vertical leg power. For athletes who have good foundational strength and the ability to generate sufficient concentric force through the ground, our typical rehab focus naturally shifts towards exercises that help train the ability to absorb & quickly produce force (commonly termed 'eccentric' force production). This is often once of the last capacity-based qualities to return in an athlete after they've sustained a lower limb injury. #benchmarking #cmj #concentric #jump #pitchready

New post on Instagram by b3perform: IMAGE⛹️♂️ GREATER LOADS ON PATELLAR TENDON DURING HORIZONTAL COMPARED TO VERTICAL JUMP-LANDING 🏐 The patellar tendon is vulnerable to overuse, especially in sports such as basketball and volleyball. This is commonly referred to as "Jumper's Knee". However, stress on the knee experienced during landings contribute to a much greater extent. This research highlights that: 1️⃣ Horizontal jump-landings result in higher systemic kinetic and kinematic demands characterized by greater vGRF, a-pGRF, RFD, and greater knee and hip flexion at initial contact 2️⃣ The patellar tendon experiences greater magnitudes and rates of loading during a horizontal jump-landing compared to a vertical task 3️⃣ Caution should be used when interpreting and comparing results across studies as the method of estimation significantly impacts the outcomes. In this study, inverse dynamics resulted in significantly higher values. 🎯APPLICATIONS: Practitioners should emphasize jump-landing mechanics and kinetic/kinematic underpinnings when developing training programs for volleyball athletes. Particular attention should be directed at horizontal tasks. REFERENCE LINK: https://lnkd.in/eURnnjrh

This time of year we always see a BIG increase in baseball and softball related arm injuries. When we evaluate these patients we often find strength or range of motion deficits in their back, hips, or lower body that likely lead to their arm pain. Fortunately we now have a quick and easy way to identify these deficits and address them before they become a problem. With DARI Motion , our markerless 3D motion analysis system, we are able to assess an athlete from head to toe, find any areas that need work, and give the athlete exercises to work on before they become a problem. Testing only takes about 30 minutes. Check out DARI in action! #baseball #pitching #softball #athletes #injuryprevention

This training strategy was designed to provide the athlete with a different running and landing surface. This means that the form of motion on the surface, applied to time and muscle action, differs when performing various movements (landing, cutting, lateral movements, and mini sprints) on varying playing surfaces due to the soft and/or stiff movements, which involve ankle, knee, and hip flexion ranges of motion. I believe changing the training surface provides an adaptation that allows a break from the traditional playing surface, encourages applied resistance, and aids in a recovery tool. Areas of improvement include keeping eyes up and moving quicker laterally. 14-year-old lacrosse athlete. #lacrosse #exercise #strong #strength #training
