As a passionate advocate for sports and entertainment, I am thrilled to see the incredible vision for Hobart's Macquarie Point stadium. This ground-breaking project promises to be "the world's largest timber-roofed stadium" and could host the world's first indoor Test cricket match, blending innovation with tradition in a truly unique way. The 23,000-seat stadium, set to be the home of Tasmania's AFL - Australian Football League club, the Tasmania Devils, showcases a spectacular design featuring a "woven-style" timber façade and a fixed dome translucent roof. This remarkable structure is not just about sports; it’s about community, culture, and sustainability. With Tasmanian timber prominently used, the stadium pays homage to the state’s heritage, seamlessly integrating the past with the future. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗘𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁: Thousands of jobs and billions of dollars for Tasmania, enhancing local infrastructure, hospitals, and housing. 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻: A translucent roof allowing natural light, sustainable growth of natural turf, and eliminating the need for large light towers. 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The "woven-style" design by First Nations artists and an "Aboriginal and culturally informed" zone celebrating Tasmania’s rich cultural heritage. The award will recognize organizations that contribute to developing a better planet by embracing sustainable school sport and the School Games Eco-Friendly value. We asked the team a few questions about their Challenge experience last year: What was your most memorable moment during the Challenge? "Smashing the other teams in the 4 x 50 relay." What was the best part about competing as a team? "Knowing that everyone knew what to do. The team is so highly skilled that if something was missed by mistake another team member would adapt and help out." Were there any funny moments on the day? "Seeing another team try and put a thermal blanket on a spinal patient in the water" Any advice for your competition? "Trust that you know the skills and don’t put unnecessary stress on yourself have fun." What is your breakfast of champions? "Bacon and eggs with fruit and a protein shake."
