This took me straight back to Jean Merrill’s wonderful children’s book, _The Pushcart Wars_. It may be fiction, but in my young imagination, it was easy to think that it was real…and looking at these photos makes it easy to believe again!

1mohaha I was looking at that first one like what, that's today, that's not old-timey, but I guess we all get to be old-timey if we're lucky. We weren't allowed to go anywhere near those carts and I felt like a criminal when I got big enough to go by myself and buy...a pretzel. Burnt, invariably. With my own money. That kid in the third photo has met the love of his life.
