𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐨! Learning is essential, but implementing what you learn is far more important. Leonardo Da Vinci (1452-1519), often hailed as the Universal Genius, exemplifies this principle. Despite being an artist, mathematician, physicist, chemist, botanist, geologist, anatomist, astronomer, musician, engineer, and town planner, he referred to himself as a "man without letters," highlighting his lack of formal academic education. Leonardo's formal education ended at the age of 15 when his father apprenticed him to the renowned artist Verrocchio. This apprenticeship was a transformative period for Leonardo. Under Verrocchio's enlightened guidance, Leonardo was exposed to a world of astonishing discoveries. He observed glassmakers grinding lenses and soon began grinding his own, showcasing his innate curiosity and drive to implement what he learned. This hands-on experience was crucial in shaping Leonardo's diverse skill set and innovative mindset. 𝙄𝒕 𝒓𝙚𝒎𝙞𝒏𝙙𝒔 𝒖𝙨 𝙩𝒉𝙖𝒕 𝒊𝙣𝒕𝙚𝒓𝙣𝒔𝙝𝒊𝙥𝒔 𝒂𝙣𝒅 𝒑𝙧𝒂𝙘𝒕𝙞𝒄𝙖𝒍 𝒆𝙭𝒑𝙚𝒓𝙞𝒆𝙣𝒄𝙚𝒔 𝒂𝙧𝒆 𝒊𝙣𝒗𝙖𝒍𝙪𝒂𝙗𝒍𝙚 𝙞𝒏 𝒐𝙪𝒓 𝒑𝙧𝒐𝙛𝒆𝙨𝒔𝙞𝒐𝙣𝒂𝙡 𝙟𝒐𝙪𝒓𝙣𝒆𝙮𝒔. They allow us to apply theoretical knowledge, gain new perspectives, and develop skills that are not taught in classrooms. Let's take a leaf out of Leonardo's book:𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀. After all, the path to mastery is paved with both learning and doing. #Internship #lifelonglearning #technology #Innovation #Mentorship #careergrowth

How We Launched Three Rockets in One Day at SDNx 🚀 As part of my internship with SDNx, I had the chance to design and build three rockets of different sizes and launch them at the space port. It was a challenging but rewarding project that taught me a lot about rocket science, engineering, and teamwork. The first rocket was a small one that failed due to a motor malfunction on launch. We learned from our mistake and improved our design for the second rocket, which was also small but had a successful launch . The third rocket was a larger one that reached a higher altitude and speed, but had a problem with the parachute . The cord connecting the parachute and rocket body broke and the rocket crashed. We analyzed the data and found out the cause of the error. This internship was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that gave me invaluable hands-on experience and knowledge in rocket science and engineering. I'm grateful to SDNx and the space port for this amazing chance to launch my own rockets. I'm proud of what I accomplished and learned from this project. #internship #rocketscience #aerospaceengineering #engineering #sdnx #spaceport Space Development Nexus - SDNx

AFIT is celebrating #NationalInternDay by highlighting our innovators of tomorrow throughout the month of July. Today, we introduce Sarah, an aerospace engineering student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona and an intern in AFIT’s Applied Research Center for Hypersonics (ARCH). Q: What are your future career aspirations? A: I am presently a cadet in the Space Force through AFROTC, with one year remaining until my graduation and commissioning as a 2nd Lt. This incredible internship experience at AFIT has inspired me to pursue a master's degree here. My goal is to be stationed at AFIT immediately after graduating, focusing on systems engineering. This will provide me with skills that I can apply to space operations or acquisitions, increasing my readiness and leadership capabilities in those fields. Q: What stands out most from your internship at AFIT so far? A: The chance to apply my academic knowledge to a real-world challenge that people are actively addressing was particularly compelling. After talking to my fellow interns and sharing what projects we are all working on, I was amazed by how innovative these research projects are, and it made me very grateful to be a part of this research. I've noticed how supportive AFIT sponsors and mentors are towards interns, emphasizing our learning and development. This opportunity enhances my problem-solving skills, which I can directly apply to my capstone project in the fall. Additionally, my proficiency in coding has greatly improved through my involvement in a project that heavily relies on coding to address the problem. Overall, this experience has been very beneficial for my growth, and I'm very appreciative of the support. 👉 Learn more about internship opportunities within the Graduate School at: https://e.AFIT.edu/31t3nn #AFITImpact #AirForceGraduateSchool #InternshipOpportunities

📣 It's time for another internship project highlight! You have less than 10 days to sign up to be one of our new interns next year, and this self-configuring cube ensembles project might be right up your alley! Topic: Self-configuring cube ensembles Deadline: 30 November 2023 23:59 CET/CEST Link: https://lnkd.in/ep2YYRuB ==[ Summary ]== Recently, concepts for self-assembling and self-configuring structures in space have been proposed that have the potential to strongly reduce the deployment time and costs for space missions as well as to re-envision the morphology and functionality of space structures, e.g., by enabling in-orbit assembly and reconfiguration of structures from smaller, easily launchable components. An example of such a technology - currently developed at MIT - is ElectroVoxels: ensembles of connected cubes that can reconfigure into different shapes by performing tilting maneuvers along their edges. The objective of this internship is to develop a control algorithm based on modern reinforcement learning techniques that enables the autonomous reconfiguration of such ensembles from any initial configuration to any target configuration. Furthermore, we will investigate multi-agent reinforcement learning approaches, setting the foundation for fully decentralized control of cube ensembles, i.e., where each cube is its own reinforcement learning agent that acts autonomously. ==[ Objectives ]== The objectives of this internship are: ➡️ Apply modern reinforcement learning techniques for controlling an ensemble of ElectroVoxels (in simulation). ➡️ Investigate these algorithms on different ElectroVoxel deployment scenarios and identify the most promising approach. ➡️ Review and perform initial tests of multi-agent reinforcement learning methods (and related approaches) to control the ensemble. ==[ More information ]== For more information, please check out the full vacancy notice here: https://lnkd.in/ep2YYRuB (Topic 1)
