THE RESULTS ARE IN! The winner of the March M of the Month Challenge is Stephanie Weiss Coffey! Please contact us by private message to claim your prize! For the answer and rationale, please see below. Thanks to all our OASIS Friends who entered the challenge. Scenario: Ms. Rose lives alone in a senior community in an independent living apartment and is being admitted to your home health agency for education on and monitoring of newly diagnosed COPD. As part of her service plan, she has contracted to receive daily dining services, weekly housekeeping and access to an emergency call bell system with 24-hour on-site response. How would you code M1100 - Patient Living Situation? A: 01. Patient Lives alone with Around the clock assistance B: 05. Patient Lives alone with No assistance available C: 11. Patient lives in congregate situation with Around the clock assistance D: 12. Patient lives in congregate situation with Regular Daytime assistance Correct answer: C. 11. Patient lives in congregate situation with Around the clock assistance Rationale: In the large care continuum complexes, the patient is living in a congregate setting when "assistance, supervision and/or oversight are provided as part of the living arrangement." This is true even if they are in an independent cottage or an independent apartment and they are getting services, like meals, housekeeping, or laundry services, as part of the living arrangement. Since they have a call bell in their apartment, the assistance is considered “Around the Clock” if onsite care continuum staff is available to respond to the bell 24/7 for the entire upcoming episode of care.
