I'm still buzzing from the opportunity to see Jude and Marcus speak 2 weeks ago. I left the event inspired about the work that we do and how to continue to push the conversations forward on how we treat and use data in our day to day work. As Dr. Marcus Collins challenged us..."We don't see the world as 'what' it is, we see the world as "WHO we are". Noodling on that will expand your horizons of how you approach the work that you do regardless of part of the 'organization' you are with. I'm left with these additional nuggets of wisdom from the talk from both Dr. Marcus Collins and Judith Carr-Rodriguez... 1 - Consumption is a CULTURAL act. 2 - Don't mistake information for intimacy. 3 - Shakespeare was right - "All the world's a stage, and we are merely [SOCIAL] actors." 4 - Stories of 'failure' generally result in stories of innovation. 5 - Don't confuse kindness with weakness. 6 - Good storytelling and creativity is 'messy' - it is likely clear at the beginning, messy in the middle and magical by the end. 7 - The messy middle is necessary! 8 - Sometimes the obvious isn't obvious until it's pointed out. #alwayslearning #4As

Our Forty Under 40 program honors young professionals in the Des Moines metro who dedicate themselves to their careers and communities. The honorees are selected each year by those who have received the honor in the past. Kim Butler Hegedus, a member of our 2001 Forty Under 40 class and our 2023 Forty Under 40 Alum of the Year, is one of our many alumni who help with judging. She says: "Over the years, this process has become increasingly competitive. ... When I am judging a nominee, I look for effort and quality of the submission. Did they take time to be thoughtful about their career success and how they are advancing themselves and their organization in a meaningful way? Career success is only one factor. How are they balancing professional achievement with community involvement? Did they take time to seek out individuals to give them a solid recommendation? These young professionals are our future leaders and critical to the health of our business community and vibrancy of our community." Here, Butler Hegedus spends time with her grandchildren, Jordyn (9) and Brady (5), at a Central College football game. Central is her alma mater, and her oldest son is on the coaching staff. Nominations for our 25th class of Forty Under 40 open in December. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gPXr7AWm.
