Oerlikon will be at the 2024 #SelectUSASummit! We look forward to our Chairman, Prof. Dr. Michael Suess, sharing our work during the panel discussion on June 25th. For over 90 years, our history has been closely linked with the United States. It all started in 1933 with a small store in New Jersey selling wire corrosion control spray equipment. In 1969, Oerlikon Balzers collaborated with NASA on the Apollo 11 moon landing, providing a coating that shielded astronauts and sensitive equipment from cosmic rays. Throughout our long history in the U.S., we have recognized the enormous potential of the American market, its global reach, and its technological affinity. We are firmly committed to further investing in the United States. #SelectUSASummit

This past July, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's ER-2 aircraft focused on flying close to thunderclouds to investigate lightning and its connection to the vast energy fields in our atmosphere. As the highest-flying plane of NASA’s Airborne Science Program, the ER-2 is giving researchers a new angle on storm clouds. Historically, lightning has only been researched by low-flying aircraft or ground observers too far from thunderclouds to examine their detailed characteristics. Learn more about the insights they expect to gain here: https://loom.ly/ySlExBo. ✈️⛈ ⠀ CommercialLightning.com I (800) 234-3950

Exciting space news from Tomorrow.io 📡 🛰️ Tomorrow.io’s pathfinder radar satellites, Tomorrow-R1 and Tomorrow-R2, have successfully characterized precipitation intensity from space. This achievement places Tomorrow.io alongside NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and JAXA: Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency as the only organizations to have ever taken such measurements from orbit. Accomplishing this could not have been possible without our amazing Space and Sensors team. 🚀 We are excited to bring this data to the billions of people around the world living without access to reliable weather and climate information needed to mitigate the onslaught of high-impact weather events we are seeing around the world. Four pictures taken by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration missions over time. The product of human intelligence mixed to our curiosity and that persistent question in our mind: are we alone? Four pictures that should give us a better perspective about our time, and how rare and precious our planet is, with its life, in the vast emptiness of the Universe. In order, the pictures: 1968, 175,000 miles, from Apollo 8 around Moon 2014, 99 million miles, from Curiosity on Mars 2013, 898 million miles, from Cassini around Saturn 1990, 3.7 billion miles, from Voyager I #ComplexityThoughts

Black Holes Are No Vacuums! While black holes have a strong gravitational pull, they don't suck everything nearby like a cosmic vacuum cleaner. If the Sun were replaced by a black hole of the same mass, Earth would still orbit it in the same way. The below gif is NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration's visualization of the movement of Black Hole.

What are Pulsars? These are highly magnetized, rotating neutron stars that emit beams of electromagnetic radiation out of their magnetic poles. Pulsars can rotate incredibly fast, with some completing hundreds of rotations per second. The below gif is posted by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

We've officially delivered the first full-scale prototype of the Universal Stage Adapter (USA). The unit traveled down the Tennessee River from our Decatur, Alabama, facility to NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, where NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration will perform structural testing for about 8 months. The USA, a load bearing connector between the rocket’s Exploration Upper Stage and Orion crew capsule, gives NASA the ability to carry astronauts and large cargo (satellites, habitats, lunar vehicles and more) on the same flight. NASA’s #ArtemisIV mission, which will be USA's inaugural flight, is targeted for 2028.

Happy Coffee Milkshake Day, Earthlings! 🚀🥤 Today, we’re blending the cosmic with the creamy, the extraordinary with the everyday, serving you a taste of the future. We envision an outer space journey where even our simplest joys are still achievable. Imagine enjoying a frothy coffee milkshake in zero gravity—an experience enhanced by the unique conditions of space. In fact, this milkshake could be even better in space, as microgravity would prevent it from settling and keep it extra fluffy. Space isn’t just about survival anymore; it’s about bringing our humanity with us and using microgravity to improve our day-to-day experiences. Projects like the Zero Gravity Cup by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration and 3D-printed foods are already laying the groundwork for us. Here’s to the future of enjoying our favorite treats, no matter where we are! 🌌✨ #CoffeeMilkshakeDay #OOTWD #SpaceInnovation #SpaceIndustry #ZeroGravityCup
