Have you had any tea today? ☕ Tea is among the top three drinks that people drink worldwide. And what could be more ideal than a tea brand that not only makes your morning go more smoothly but also spreads positive messages? You have probably guessed the brand by now; if not, it is Tata Tea. Let us analyze 𝐓𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐚'𝐬 "𝐉𝐚𝐚𝐠𝐨 𝐑𝐞" campaign, which has been able to awaken India for more than a decade. Tata Tea's "Jaago Re" campaign, isn't just a marketing tagline; it's a social movement spanning over a decade. Since its launch in 2007, it has addressed a number of social concerns and encouraged people to actively contribute to positive change. Let's take a closer look at the evolution of campaign: 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 (𝟐𝟎𝟎𝟕-𝟐𝟎𝟏𝟐): - Concentrated on important topics such as women's empowerment, education, and corruption. - Boosted awareness through the use of compelling storytelling and celebrity endorsements. - Started ground-level initiatives to promote the causes it supported. - Became incredibly well-known and was associated with social activism in India. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: - Campaigns that have won many awards: "Jaago Re" has won multiple awards for its innovative strategy and social impact. - Long-term dedication: Tata Tea's persistent efforts have strengthened the campaign's reputation as a positive influence. - Empowering communities through voter education campaigns and sanitation projects, "Jaago Re" has given communities the confidence to take charge of their own health. 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: "Jaago Re: Climate Change is Impacting Us and Our Children's Future," the most recent version, was introduced in 2021. It draws attention to the risks posed by climate change and inspires action via moving nursery rhymes. All things considered, Tata Tea's "Jaago Re" is a commendable example of a company leveraging its position to promote change. It has established itself as a strong voice for social justice in India by continuously bringing attention to issues and motivating people to take action. Last week, I did a series of interviews at one of my favorite events, the Fast Company Innovation Festival. I asked a lot of nosey questions to a lot of smart people about everything from AI to mindfulness to climate change. In addition to all the pics and goof-offs I decided I'd also capture a few things I noticed along the way. 1.) Unapologetic Innovation is the Best Innovation Looking at this year's line up, I got a feeling that this year's sessions were filled with all kinds of rule breakers. From Slutty Vegan CEO Pinky Cole rebranding what it means to be a vegan and a mom and a wife, to climate-fighting Patagonia's presence on-stage, to a self-described "fat, black, and queer" yoga innovator, there's an air of boldly going against the grains of industry tradition, and unapologetically celebrating some of the most unique perspectives we've seen operating in business. 2.) Halle Berry Knows Her Sh*t Literally. Afterall, as the Chief Communications Officer of Pendulum Therapeutics, a gut-health biotech company, we did have a conversation that was almost all about poop -- and microbiomes. Similarly Tracee Ellis Ross talked about being knee-deep in the entrepreneurial trenches for 10 years with the vision behind PATTERN Beauty, and folks like NBA star Al Harrington talked cannabis, activism and legislation all under the guise of his brand, VIOLA Brands. Lots of celebrities throw their names and cash on things, and then there's a whole other class that gets a kick out of making, building, sharing, and educating. 3.) Zero Diversity Programming I've said this before and I'll say it again: we don't need more diversity sessions. Don't worry, I have my receipts. ;) While I'm not saying we don't need spaces and places and conversation advocating for diverse thought/industry leaders, I do believe that there's a huge benefit to sharing the same stages and platforms without being billed as the "diversity in ____" person. Sometimes calling out a problem too much only intensifies its presence in culture. When we remove the perception and label of a barrier, we have a greater opportunity to remove the barrier itself. FCIF did a great job at curating a wide mix of otherness, rightfully placing historically marginalized voices evenly among their intellectual and pioneering counterparts. 4.) Sustainability Must Die During some man on the street conversations, I asked several attendees their thoughts on everything from NFT's tapering off, to the future of work, to AI, strikes, and of course what industry buzzwords should go away. On the latter, I was incredibly surprised at how often people said "sustainability" needed to go. Mainly because we use words like that, or "innovation," or "customer acquisition" as empty chatter without real definition and real action behind what it means -- especially with many companies and countries missing climate deadlines -- to truly be any of these things. Go deep with your definitions, and far with your actions.

Infact, according to a recent report certain categories of products with sustainability claims showed twice the growth of their traditional counterparts. Yet a frustrating paradox remains at the heart of green business: Few consumers who report positive attitudes toward eco-friendly products and services follow through with their wallets.
