When I was a journalist, I regularly received press releases that failed to explain what a company actually does. How does this happen? Founders and their teams are often so immersed in their problem space that when communicating with various stakeholders they assume the audience has prior knowledge that simply isn't there. At O'Hear & Co., we spend a lot of time helping startups articulate what they do in simple, clear terms. This typically involves an honest conversation about being too close to the problem and the amount of time needed to build long-term recognition among key media and other stakeholders. It requires an ego check—acknowledging that no one yet knows who you are or cares that you exist. From here, the real work begins. #Startups #Leadership #PRTips
It's the top advice we give to the companies in our Tech Innovator competition - simply sum up your business in one or two sentences. It's surprising how many can't do that!

1moA company that cannot explain what it does in simple terms is a 🚩 for me. (Thinking back to all the crypto startup press releases I used to get about 'democratising the tokenisation of immutable assets because something something blockchain')
