As reported in Forbes Australia, (the highlighting is my own) it seems I've done OK at picking good Startmate startups to invest in after Demo Day - here's a table of the most valuable Startmate companies since 2012. Edrolo, Morse Micro and Sitemate were all startups I was unable to invest in because I didn't have the available capital. The message and objectives are great, Enterprise Ireland / Enterprise Ireland USA, but I will give the same feedback I provide to my colleagues here in #Connecticut…€50,000-€100,000 PSSF can be very meaningful to a young #advancedmanufacturing or #deeptech #startup, but providing this as a convertible debt note is missing the point. These funds need to be provided as either outright grants or forgiveable loans based on performance milestones. Otherwise it is not an equitable public-private-collaboration. Amazing listening to the speakers during this event. The three biggest takeaways from the speakers was: 1. Most successful people are not smarter than you they were just in the right ecosystem and had the right people around them (you could argue that being "smart" is simply putting yourself in a position for opportunities to arise) 2. Longevity: Exclusive Privilege or Societal Benefit? Longevity stands at a strategic crossroads. Investors and leaders must decide whether this movement should remain accessible only to wealthy target groups or strive for broader societal access. Should Longevity be an unregulated luxury for the elite, or should we invest heavily in evidence-based, personalized preventive therapies supported by national funds? In the long term, this could yield significant health and socioeconomic benefits. The first path is easier and requires no extensive evidence or transparency. However, if we pursue the second path, we could achieve sustainable health benefits for a broader population. Are the current Longevity players ready to take on this demanding challenge? The decision lies in the hands of the orchestrators of the Longevity movement.
