Another cool project I had the opportunity to be part of was The Eternal Cylinder. Today I will write a little bit about the behind-the-scenes porting of this project Our task was to bring the game to the Next-Gen consoles, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, which were still relatively new at that time. I was looking forward to working with the new controllers, features of the next generation, and improved performance. Of course, this was more relevant to Sony, as their next-gen features with Adaptive Triggers, Haptic Feedback, and Activities would not leave anyone indifferent. The goal was to unlock the potential of 9th-generation consoles. To achieve this, we needed to enhance visual effects using RTX and implement new console features. For this porting, we had to upgrade the engine version to 4.27 (as 4.24 did not support integration with 9th-generation consoles), and it was quite a challenge. The strongest "shot in the foot" was the SkookumScript plugin, which was not supported by the new version of the engine. 😬 For the QA team, this meant numerous test iterations to ensure that the plugin and the game in general worked, at least approximately, as on the previous engine version. During the work, certification issues for the new consoles also arose. We approached it systematically: - Identified and localized issues - Optimized mechanics for the new generation consoles - Updated SDK - Fixed and retested all certification test cases For me, the most interesting part of the project was the implementation of new PlayStation features - PS5 Activities, Adaptive Triggers, and Haptic Feedback. Our quality control team closely collaborated with Dev and GD teams, providing feedback on control schemes and usage scenarios for new mechanics. It's been a while since I played the game, but I still remember those amazing sensations when we finally implemented adaptive triggers for water shooting mechanics and vibrations during encounters with giant NPCs. I highly recommend checking out this game on PS5 or Xbox Series X! 😉 #casestudy #project #qa #porting #playstation #xbox Read more in our case study 🔻🔻🔻
