The Formula 1 project of AUDI AG is getting the next push. Not that there was any doubt or that the engine stalled. We just shifted up a gear a little earlier than planned because the track profile required it. Commitment, flexibility and speed of decision-making lead to success in Formula 1. I can’t wait for the next steps and I look forward to an even more intensive collaboration with Oliver Hoffmann and Andreas Seidl. The German car manufacturer Audi announced on Friday that the supervisory boards of Volkswagen AG and Audi AG, Manfred Döss as board chairman, vote for complete takeover of Sauber Group Formula 1 operation. A corresponding agreement has been reached with the current majority shareholder Islero Investments AG, with Finn Rausing (TetraPak) as one majorshareholder, which fully supports the change. Note that Frederic Vasseur is a former shareholder too. 👉 This means Audi plans to take a 100 percent stake in the Sauber Group, and accelerated the preparations for successful entry into Formula 1 and significantly expands its commitment. 👉 Oliver Hoffmann takes over responsibility, a new position, for Audi’s Formula 1 commitment and becomes Chairman of the Boards of Directors of Sauber Group. 👉 Andreas Seidl will become CEO of the Audi F1 Team, and thus the face of Audi’s racing team 👉 Audi CEO Gernot Döllner to lead Technical Development division of AUDI AG For Sauber this is good news, because Audi is committed and ready to bring the team to a new level ahead of the 2026 Audi factory team program. I understand and at the same time do not understand the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile's decision to reject Andretti Global's bid to enter Formula until after 2026. Renault (Alpine is part of Renault), Audi, Ferrari, Honda, Mercedes, and Ford will be Formula 1 engine suppliers starting in 2026. Andretti Global could enter in 2026 with an Audi engine badged as Porsche, Audi and Porsche are owned by Volkswagen then switch to Cadillac in 2028. Is it possible that Andretti Global is nearing the end of this long, maddening journey to join Formula 1? Could we see an announcement this weekend at the Las Vegas Grand Prix? “We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “With our deep engineering and racing expertise, we’re confident we’ll develop a successful power unit for the series, and position Andretti Cadillac as a true works team. We will run with the very best, at the highest levels, with passion and integrity that will help elevate the sport for race fans around the world.” If you haven’t followed this story, I’ll give you the TLDR: F1 currently has 10 teams. F1 splits profits between those 10 teams. Those 10 teams don’t want to start splitting the pie 11 ways, and they don’t think that adding another team will make the pie significantly larger. Despite a myriad of obstacles and objections, it appears as if Michael Andretti’s perseverance will pay off. Their bid has passed inspection by the FIA, they have raised the $200 million entry fee, they’ve secured a partnership with Cadillac, and now GM has registered to become a power unit (engine and hybrid drivetrain) manufacturer for F1…as long as they can come on board with Andretti. With annual revenues exceeding $2.5 billion and team values ranging between $750 million and $4 billion, its easy to see why the hoops have been worth jumping through. #racing #lasvegasgp #business
