One great analogy that I recently encountered is the one of The Surfer Mentality. Essentially, when a surfer gets up on a wave, they fully immerse themselves in the present moment (pun intended), even though they are 100% sure that the wave will end. They enjoy that particular wave, with the knowledge that there are always more waves coming. This analogy entails several key points: - The surfer knows that they don’t have to ride each and every wave. They have the full freedom to pick and choose which wave to take, and which wave to simply watch pass them by. - The surfer knows that most of the time they won’t be riding any wave, but just staying afloat and waiting. Those instances can sometimes be very long, making them wonder whether they’ll ever see a good wave again. - Consequently, the surfer knows that the only way to catch a good wave is by putting themselves in the water. No good comes out of sitting on the shore. Yes, you might get crushed by some waves, but the reward outweighs the risk. Keep this analogy in mind as you navigate this week’s waves.
