Here’s what happened. I was part of an internal team at a large medical center doing patient centered re-design. We had spent years evaluating every single group for efficiency and patient focus. My boss, Bridget Strachan, whom I respected, asked us to run our same process for our group of 5 people. The results revealed our function should. be outsourced. Yup. Our rigorous process, applied to our team, meant we should downsize and hire a firm to do the work we were doing from the outside. Every job would be eliminated, including Bridget’s.
