MUMMY MOTIVATION: our retail industry trend prediction for 2024. Many products with innovative or active ingredients are not recommended for use by those who are pregnant, breastfeeding or, increasingly, trying to conceive. This is sometimes because the ingredients are known to be harmful, and other times because it’s simply not known either way whether they would be harmful or not because they’ve never been tested on pregnant women. Even outside of family planning concerns, lots of people are generally becoming more selective about the ingredients they’re comfortable using topically. And because of this; we’re expecting brands to start marketing more product swaps. For example, a brand might say: “it may not be safe for you to use retinol if you’re pregnant but why not try our niacinamide which is safer and just as effective”. Putting the legal hat on – brands need to be very careful when making any marketing claims that one ingredient is a “safer” option when compared to another. These sorts of claims would need to be substantiated on two levels – first to show that the alternative product is indeed proven to be safe for the intended user group, and secondly to show that the original product should be avoided due to it actually being unsafe. Neither of which are straightforward claims to substantiate. Hair is hugely tied up with our sense of our identity – it makes us feel feminine, it’s a demonstration of our culture and heritage and there’s nothing like a ‘just stepped out of the salon’ blow dry to give us an instant confidence boost. About 70% of midlife women experience thinning hair and hair loss. This tends to start when we’re in our early 50s but it can begin earlier. Thankfully all is not lost: so says trichologist-extraordinaire Demi Griffiths who has been helping women overcome hair loss many years, having worked in the field of hair for over 20 years and practicing as a Trichologist for 5. STOP Saying Anti-Aging Anti-Aging encouraged by the beauty industry is total BS. The anti-aging culture/industry and diet-culture are so similar, its scary. They’re both upholding these ever changing unrealistic standards. They profit big time form these unrealistic standards and our fear and insecurities created by these messaging. They use "you are worth it" or "love your body" providing solutions to our insecurities created by the same industries. The reason I highlight this as aging and body image go hand in hand. As women age they feel ashamed of their bodies for Women 35-60 years of age. It's a very deep fear and impact on their confidence and also on their lives. I am also part of this conditioning. I dye my hair and use retinol of age spots. Cause i do not like them. I have considered botox however not used it and also a tummy tuck but i have not done it. Can you see the immense pressure on women to look or be a certain way? As we age it becomes more intense the pressure to look young for longer. This is their unrealistic messaging by the anti-aging culture and diet culture 1. They both target women - to maintain their desirability for longer. 2. Treat women as objects and value is based on this objectifying of women 3. Being thin will make you feel better and look better to a unrealistic standard and stereotype. But your body is going to change during menopause and as you age? 4. They both do not represent the real women out there 5. Your skin is going get wrinkles - its natural!! So they make having wrinkle as being unhealthy and unattractive. How can we defy a natural progression of life. The list goes on. 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡𝐲 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧.    Aging takes its toll on all of us and is especially noticeable on our skin. Seniors often deal with skin problems as a result of aging. Here are just a few of the things to watch out for:   1. Dry skin--some of the things that exacerbate dry skin include dehydration, breathing air that is too dry, prolonged sun exposure, stress, certain health conditions, such as kidney disease of diabetes. 2. Bruising--Seniors bruise easily—far easier than younger adults. The healing process also takes a bit longer. If you notice bruising and don’t know how it got there, talk to a doctor to get to the bottom of it. 3. Wrinkles-- Sun exposure causes excess and premature wrinkling. Things like smoking and gravity also contribute to wrinkles. 4. Skin tags and age spots--Once referred to as “liver spots,” age spots are brown, flat marks on top of the skin. They are similar to freckles but much larger. Using a heavy-duty sunscreen can help reduce age spots later in life. 5. Skin cancer--People who are most susceptible to skin cancer are those with fair skin and freckles.
