Introducing Eutelsat OneWeb's new demo facility at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada 🍁 This week, we welcomed representatives from the Government of Canada; industry partners and local service providers; as well as members of the Carleton faculty, to our new lab, where our Canada team showcased the capabilities of our network across our wide suite of user terminals. At our launch event, guests received demonstrations of the power of our high-speed low latency low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation, which is active today across all of Canada – from coast to coast and even across the entire Arctic. Speaking at the event, Howard H W Stanley, our VP for Canada, said: “Canada brings unique terrain alongside several isolated communities and remote businesses. Parts of this country have traditionally been challenging to connect, but thanks to our completed LEO constellation, we are able to provide even the most remote areas with connectivity fit for modern life. “We are delighted to be opening this new facility, allowing us to showcase how space is the future for communications on Earth.” We’re looking forward to welcoming guests to the facility in the future – and if you would like to get in touch, please reach out to Michael Redmond or Howard H W Stanley if you have a project requiring connectivity you’d like to partner on in our lab. The O-RAN ALLIANCE, fulfilling its mission to transform Radio Access Networks to be open, intelligent, virtualized and fully interoperable, today announced the successful completion of the O-RAN ALLIANCE Global PlugFest Fall 2023. “The continued level of industry participation in the Global PlugFest demonstrates commitment and progress in advancing O-RAN,” said Alex Jinsung Choi, Chair of the Board of O-RAN ALLIANCE and SVP Group Technology, Deutsche Telekom. “In the Fall 2023 PlugFest, we expanded scope of testing beyond lab-based conformance and interoperability of equipment. Security validation continued to be a priority throughout the PlugFest. Several venues hosted demonstrations of RIC for energy savings, enabling attainment of sustainability objectives. Anybody know what this is? 👀 It’s important not to overly rely on technology for a smooth, memorable event. I get it. We like to use the most advanced tools for the job because the industry attracts many naturally tech-savvy people. But the newest tool isn’t NECESSARILY the best tool. I think, sometimes, we might be over-engineering things. While technology is a powerful enabler in the events industry, I believe it’s crucial not to over-rely on it. Human connection and shared experiences are at the heart of memorable events. That being said, as someone who got their start in this industry 27 years ago, I certainly don’t miss the days of lugging a giant projector all over the country, manually loading 35mm film into that projector, anxiously ensuring it didn't set alight when pausing for a speaker and then loading it BACK into the van before the next show! I’m very happy for technological advancements when I can just bring my laptop along and hit the spacebar to play! We’ve come a long way. How do you balance tech and tradition?
