Did you know that May is Older Americans Month (OAM)! Let's take a moment to celebrate the immense contributions of older Americans to our country. They have worked their entire lives to achieve the American Dream for their families and communities, making our nation stronger and building a future of possibilities for new generations. 🌟 As we honor their achievements, let us also commit to ensuring that every American can age with the dignity and the financial security that they deserve. 🌟 It is also a time to recognize the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. Connectedness plays a vital role in supporting independence and aging in place by combating isolation, loneliness, and other issues. 🌟 This is a time to stand firm in our efforts to support older Americans and ensure that they can continue to thrive and contribute to our society. How can you support these efforts? Every May, the Administration for Community Living leads the nation’s observance of Older Americans Month (OAM). Their 2024 theme is 'Powered by Connection.' Inspire older adults to share what connection means to them on social media using the hashtag #PoweredByConnection. https://lnkd.in/gu4666WQ #OlderAmericansMonth #AgingWithDignity #AgingAndLivingLife #InspireOlderAdults #Community #Dignity

Each May, our nation observes Older Americans Month (OAM). The theme for 2024 is 'Powered by Connection,' highlighting the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. At Senior Star, we actively promote resources and create environments that help older adults engage and connect. Our programs and staff support residents in key areas, including their Mental Health, Independence, Physical Health, and sharing of Wisdom and Experience. Senior Star also focuses on promoting Resources for Engagement, offering: • Community Events: Regularly scheduled activities, themed parties, and cultural events that bring residents together. • Social Clubs: Interest-based groups such as book clubs, gardening clubs, and hobby groups that provide a sense of belonging. • Volunteer Opportunities: Partnerships with local charities and organizations that allow residents to contribute and stay active in the community. • Connecting with Local Services: We help connect older adults with local services to overcome obstacles to achieving or maintaining meaningful relationships, such as: 🚐 Transportation Services: Providing shuttle services and coordinating with local transportation providers to ensure residents can attend social activities, medical appointments, and other essential outings. 👬Support Services: Offering access to healthcare professionals, counseling, and other support services within our communities to address the physical and emotional needs of our residents. We celebrate Older Americans Month by recognizing the power of connection and taking steps to build and strengthen the bonds that enrich our lives. Please share your experiences and wisdom around staying connected! No matter our age, we can all benefit from support in maintaining connections in our busy lives. 💖 #PoweredByConnection #SeniorLiving #SeniorStar #OlderAmericansMonth https://hubs.la/Q02yF6gc0

This month’s theme is deeply personal to me. It’s an important reminder, on multiple levels. I encourage you all to be mindful in celebrating this month, too. If you weren’t planning on calling an older American close to you, give them a call anyway. Pay them a visit if you have an hour, even if it’s impromptu. Have lunch together, even if it’s just PB&J. Talk sports; talk music; talk life. Tell stories. Go for a walk. But most importantly: connect, reconnect and stay connected.
This May, we're celebrating Older Americans Month and are happy to share that this year's theme is 'Powered By Connection'! We invite you to celebrate this month with us by reaching out to an older adult with whom you haven't spoken in a while. You'll make that person's day - and yours, too. Thank you to the Administration for Community Living for recognizing the profound impact of meaningful relationships and social connections on our health and well-being. #PoweredByConnection #socialhealth #socialconnection #connectingforgood #intergenerational #mentalhealth

May is here, and it's time to celebrate Older Americans Month (OAM)! 🌼 This year's theme, "Powered by Connection," highlights the incredible impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. Join us as we delve into the essential role that connectedness plays in supporting independence and aging in place by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other challenges. 1. Supporting Mental Health: Studies reveal that maintaining strong social networks can enhance cognitive function and potentially lower the likelihood of developing Alzheimer's disease as individuals age. 2. Supporting Independence: Strong social networks provide vital support systems that enable older adults to maintain their independence and age gracefully in their own homes. 3. Promoting Physical Health: Socializing boosts the immune system, reduces inflammation, and lowers the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Additionally, individuals with strong social connections often experience longer lifespans. 4. Sharing Wisdom and Experience: Older adults have a wealth of knowledge and experience to offer, and staying connected allows them to share their wisdom with others, fostering meaningful intergenerational relationships. At Senior Star we celebrate Older Americans Month by recognizing the power of connection and taking steps to build and strengthen the bonds that enrich all of our lives. Regardless of age, we can all benefit from support in maintaining connections in our busy lives. 💖 #PoweredByConnection #SeniorLiving #SeniorStar #OlderAmericansMonth https://hubs.la/Q02vNTj20

On this day in 1965, Congress passed the Older Americans Act in response to the lack of social services for the elderly. The Older Americans Act includes community service employment for low-income older folks, learning opportunities in the field of aging, and vulnerable elder rights protection activities.
